Pray very earnestly.Hah, great minds think alike. :p ETA: when I saw the first post, I thought great, another theist telling us what atheism "is" or what it "believes" and who obviously doesn't understand the term. Then I saw the date and became even more depressed.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I realize this thread started a few years ago but global Atheism isn't "slowly decaying." lol It's flourishing in the US and Europe, yet still remains almost non existent in most parts of the Middle East. But, the reason for the latter is due to regimes that are somewhat oppressive in terms of people being permitted to express religious and non religious freedoms.
That said, I chuckled reading the OP, where the poster thinks that living in a predominantly Christian country is far better than a Muslim one. Neither is good, for different reasons. But in the US, hmmm...let's see...under predominantly "Christian" leadership over the years, America has paved the way for slavery, sexism, homophobia, and bigotry. Yes! All hail Christianity! It's been SO helpful in progressing the US, and while some of those issues have been resolved, there are still problems surrounding racism, bigotry, sexism and homophobia. The conservative "movement" wants to stifle feminism, and prohibit gay people from marrying. "Christian values" at their best. Yup. I'll take a secular society any day of the week. |
