Did humanity ignore this as it was never mentioned?

RE: Did humanity ignore this as it was never mentioned?
The primitive minded writers were only using what limited knowledge was at their disposal at the time to create what they perceived to be the perfect deity and religion.

It's surprising, when you look into it, how many of the terms and concepts we associate today with modern science come handed down to us from "primitive minded" people.  Any one of those primitive people, supplied with an explanation common to us today, could have understood perfectly well the germ theory of disease, for example.  We've been anatomically and culturally modern human beings for far longer than we've been writing ghost stories.

Their god didn't know because they didn't know - but they could have known.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'd feel much more sanguine about gods imparting scientific knowledge to humans if it was less ambiguous.  For instance, had verse 32 been worded, 'And we have placed in the air above the Earth a curtain made of smallest motes, and these motes are like to the cousins of the air, and yet unlike.  And the curtain made of them we have placed to protect men from the harmful vapors of the sun, which bring on the skin sickness' and this verse were touted as describing the ozone layer, I'd be somewhat more likely to think 'Huh' than 'Pffft'.

One would think the immoral preachments alone would be sufficient to discount the whole thing. But then you've got the firmament, the flood, and all the other stuff that's been debunked 700 ways from Sunday. For everything they can twist to fit science, there's even more that can be found to counter it. There's just no point in this kind of apologetics anyway, it doesn't help reinforce their beliefs they already hold, and it doesn't convince anyone from an outside perspective. But then, that's true of all apologetics.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

Being a religious apologist means never having to say you're sorry.  Big Grin

Although according to a lot of Xtian propaganda films, it's not about changing your behavior, it's about saying you're sorry.

Yeah, 'cause it's all about what gawd wants and feels...kind of helps heaping crap on the whole free will thing too...like we shouldn't be the ones concerned with what happens to us because we're just objects.

( 31 )   And We placed within the earth anchors, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountains] passes [as] roads that they might be guided.
( 32 )   And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away.
( 33 )   And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.

My comments:

verse 30: Big Bang? and water is the key ingredient for life to prosper.
verse 31: gravity? the hugest anchor of all?
verse 32: ozone layer?

There you go again...

Trying to 'ad hoc' passages in your ignorant holy book to sound as if it is scientific.

You do know that Hindus do the same thing with their holy book, right? Just google "science in the Vedas" or something similar.

Yet you don't believe in the Hindu gods.

What gives?

Sounds like you are guilty of special pleading.

Passages in your holy book that can be made to sound as if they are prescient of modern science = my god exists.

But, passages in other holy books of other religions that can be made to sound as if they are prescient of modern science =/= other god exists.

Seems a bit intellectually dishonest of you. But that couldn't be! Theist apologists are NEVER intellectually dishonest.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
