Dude, you're arguing with a theist who made this statement: "I test my own beliefs against the fine counter-arguments that will sure be brought up." Has anything they said subsequently led you to believe they're genuine? Them throwing that kind of thing out there so early on is a pretty good indicator they don't even know how insincere they are. We should all at least ask them to own up on their bluff first. You've presented quite possibly the perfect analogy to demolish their argument and I want them to acknowledge it legitimately and not weasel out of it without admitting that they're doing just that.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
