What was your standard for determining if the NRA video was acceptable?

I admit I was just judging both sociopolitical spectrums and just using my own personal feelings but what if such a video did spark violence and reactions en masse. How would you determine the video as threatening then?

I apologize for making this seem overly complicated by the way Big Grin

I didn't say it was 'acceptable', I said it didn't seem to be promoting violence.

I don't care if it sparks reactions (for example, I'm reacting to it right now, and I haven't shot anyone).  If it sparks violence, I will dejectedly admit I was wrong. But I still wouldn't consider the vid as 'threatening'.  As for 'en masse', I doubt very much that the majority of gun owners are going to see this and start looking for NYT reporters to shoot.

Interesting.

As I said before about this and the Kathy picture. I cannot care about this stuff a whole lot because it always gets interpreted through political lenses which makes a lot of bias and I just don't care about these things and don't acknowledge them. I only hate them because I have to turn of any political media I enjoy because they will be ranting about it while I just have to sit in my chair trying to ignore the overreactions. Us right wingers love our lengthy diatribes about simple moronic matters and I am sure you know this already.

RE: Looks like the NRA is at it again
The NRA is nothing but a heat shield lobby paid to protect the profits of gun factories. They could give one fuck less that 36,000 people die from use of firearms on average per year. It is also a MYTH that those deaths are mostly stranger on stranger violence. Most of them are suicides and domestic murders and accidental in the HOME.

The NRA uses fear to scare the far right into protecting them. None of what the left wants is about creating an all out ban. FUCK THE NRA, they are not the safety org they started out as.

Oh bullshit, if I had a nickle for every gun owner I've heard say , "Out of my cold dead hands" I'd make Trump look like a vagabond. Of course not all, so what? There is a fringe that blood lobby panders to and they are the same types of assholes who hold a nature reserve hostage.

And someone did act on their beliefs, guy went into a pizza joint WITH A FIREARM and shot it up because the right wing media whom the NRA loves, sold a bullshit story about Hillary running a child molesting ring.

The NRA is the one lobby that protects our flooded market and have been responsible for DECADES for obstructing those who want to reduce firearm deaths.

Even when the NRA's butt buddy party GOP gets shot up by a democrat, even then, those assholes don't want anything done. It is nothing but about an industry and profits. It has nothing to do with firearm safety.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that I'm in any wise supporting the NRA - you should know better. My point, which you seem to have missed, is that the ignorant screed in the link isn't something that is likely  to incite the majority of gun owners to start hunting journalists.  And anyone who IS incited by the video is a whackaloon who was going to kill someone anyway.

What part of that qualifies as 'bullshit'?

I wasn't accusing you of supporting them, I am saying they are throwing read meat at their far right supporters and every add, regardless of if you think it looks harmless is not harmless. You cannot take one sample and extrapolate as being their entire agenda long term. Selection bias and sample rate error is why their far right is unreasonable and also why you see this one add as harmless.

The bottom line is that they market long term and every line of every add, and every image of every add is by design just like any other product consumers buy. If it didn't work they would not do it.

There is nothing of any redeeming value about that organization. If they truly cared about people dying we would not see the decades after decades of firearm deaths we do. They are nothing but a heat shield for the gun factories.

Can't these NRA nuts just do us all a favor and go ahead and shoot themselves in the dick. It's bound to happen sooner or later anyway.

I do know what they have produced as far as a long term climate because of their marketing. 36,000 firearm deaths per year, year after year, decade after decade.

Make you a deal, I'll stop bitching when that number gets under say 1,000 per year or better yet NONE. We have a very high firearm death rate compared to other westernized 1rst world countries.

The NRA stopped being sane back int he mid 70s. If the had never been hijacked by lobbyist and corporatists those numbers never would have grown as high as they have.

I don't dispute any of that, but it has fuck all to do with my point. You said earlier that you're not implying that I support the NRA, yet you continue to rail about them without addressing the advert in question. Do us all a favour- locate the point and stick to it.
