It seems that at one point I could copy the URL and the video would embed when I linked to it. Now it does not. How can I make this happen?

Works for me. I just hit "share" at youtube and then paste the link into "insert a video" here at AF, look-

OK! I hit share on you tube site . Copied URL in the pop up. On AF found video icon , chose "youtube" from pop up and hit paste. One successful embedding. Let's see if I can repeat this process.

Now when I do this same procedure  the video appears on the screen but when I hit 'Post Reply" the image disappears. The URL code is an unlinkable one.

Just to clarify that the video icon dropdown performs automatically the manual steps outlined by mh.brewer.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

You don't have to hit share on YouTube. Just copy the link that's in the url box

I always just type out the codes. Trying to find tiny icons on my cell phone is ridiculous and trying to click them with your finger is pretty much impossible.
