We've seen this before:
(Also, another member correctly pointed out that the offending party was the Taliban, not Al-Quaeda)
So...A religious cult that condones slavery (Al Quaeda) blows up a statue of a pacifist. And this has some relevance to ...?

Stick to Aquinas, Neo, you're shit at arguing politics. You don't address the key issues with your original argument, you just ignore and post more.

Nobody is purging history by removing statues of Confederate Leaders. In fact, they're making history by doing it.
What those statues represent are the ideals of the Confederate States of America--which itself stood for the subjugation of human beings on the basis of the color of their skin. They were put up to honor the confederacy, not just the men that fought for it. To keep those statues up is to say that the ideals of the confederacy--of which slavery was a critical and key component--are ideals we still uphold today.

Last night the city of Baltimore quietly removed their 4 Confederate Memorial Statues. The racists woke up and their trophies were gone. They should melt down the metal and make a statue of Frederic Douglass.

We didn't forget the Nazis and we dismantled their statues.
Many of these Confederate statues were installed during Jim Crow and the push for Civil Rights. They were installed in bad faith and they're currently defended by people acting in bad faith.
I cannot see a better reason than that to dismantle these cheap ass ($400) piles of crap masquerading as "history".
History is preserving battle fields, not the monuments of traitors or nazis.
You don't see statues of King George throughout the South. So much for the "history" argument, which I also suspected of being made in bad faith.
Anyone who knows a damned thing about these statues and when they were installed knows a great many of them came to be over racial prejudice toward current events of that time.

Indeed I love the but" not all of them fought for that argument" Do I need to start listing off evil regime who had soldiers who didn't fight for this reason or that reason . No that argument does not hold water
