I am in my forties.  I have 2 master's degrees.  I served in the Air Force.  I worked an average of 12 hours a day as a consultant for the energy industry, and I facilitate more economic activity in each of several transactions I work on per year than you likely do in your entire life time.  Now I focus on making sure powerplants run more efficiently and reliably, from home.  I also likely make significant number of times more in personal income than you.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the United States would likely do better and be more productive with one of me than several of you.

The problem isn't where A-Theist ended up, the problem is his bullshit judgmental attitude that if you don't work 80hrs a week and run your body into the ground killing yourself to make a billionaire rich then you are a loser. My X wife has both a masters and PHD in microbiology. I am not going to say her work was easy, no work  is easy, but she also wasn't in a mud pit digging ditches in 90degree heat 6 days a week either. 

Office jobs are not easy, nobody should claim they are, but all I am saying to A-Thiest is don't shit on those who have to worry about not only paying their bills, but not making ends meet because pay isn't keeping up with the cost of living, on top of it being physically demanding.

It is far easier to spend long hours psychologically when you like what you do on top of having the support not to have to worry about struggling financially. I've done both 12 hour shifts sitting at a desk at a radio station, and 12 hour shifts sweating my ass off in a hot kitchen with no air conditioning. 

I wish I had your degree, I wish I had my X Wife's degree. I like office jobs over sweating. But my brain doesn't process information the same way as those who figure those things out. I am an artist, a poet at heart, and unfortunately that is no the type of thing you can walk into a business and get a job with.

Point is, all jobs, from the top to the bottom are needed, air conditioned or outdoors, rich or poor and middle class. But far too many on the right chase bullshit utopias and think of the bullshit cliche "starter job". Problem is if these judgmental assholes would go into those places they call "starter jobs" during the class time of public schools and colleges, who the fuck is working there when the kids are in school?

There is room for everyone, rich, middle class and poor. Some will move up, some wont. But the worse the pay gap gets the worse it gets for even the rich, because the less pay workers make, the less they buy.

I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. Honestly, I personally don't have a strong opinion on these statues either way. I guess the fairest thing to do would be to let the people of the city itself decide. My response was only to say that Neo's opinion on this particular issue with historical statues doesn't make him a supremacist sympathizer, even if it is the same opinion as the supremacist themselves.

Here's something to think about. What if the Confederate statues and monuments had not been ordered for removal? What would have happened in Charlottesville? Or better yet, what wouldn't have happened in Charlottesville? To many Southerners those Confederate monuments are a connection to their ancestry and culture.

Then they can be kept in a Museum and photos online, the same way everyone else does it. Not in front of a courthouse.

I don't even think that is necessary (re-naming).  I'm not going to pretend to know, the motivations of those who put up the statues (if it was for white supremacy; I don't think that Lee or Jackson was a very good choice given the history of the matter).  However, even if it was was originally racially motivated, I think that with both men, it could be used to focus on the good that they stood for, rather than only fighting for the south (especially Lee and his promotion of unification after the war).  Neither seem to be all about (or a symbol) for slavery and oppression from what I have read on them.

On the matter, I'm kind of neutral.   These statues didn't bother me a year ago, and they don't bother me today.  I think that if the city or location that owns them, wants to take them down, and it is done through proper procedures; I have no problem with that.  If it is mobs tearing down or defacing statues because they don't like them; I think that is a different matter all together (more akin to the reference in the OP).  I think that a rational case can be made for both sides and the proper people may make their decision from there.  However when people won't even listen, or start trying to strong-arm politicians and such by calling anyone who disagrees a racist (unjustly);  I do start leaning away from that side and supporting the other rather quickly.

You're probably finding out now that rationality and discussion escapes most of the leftist members here. I only work 13 weeks a year....and only when it's not  dripping wet or bone dry - and only between the hours of 5am and 7am or 4pm and 6pm; my entire "job" is to figure out how little work I can possibly do.

The rest of the time I play video games, post on forums, chat with randos on the phone..and just generally waste time.  I've been sitting around all morning in a towel with a beagle in my lap.
