I only work 13 weeks a year....and only when it's not  dripping wet or bone dry - and only between the hours of 5am and 7am or 4pm and 6pm; my entire "job" is to figure out how little work I can possibly do.

The rest of the time I play video games, post on forums, chat with randos on the phone..and just generally waste time.  I've been sitting around all morning in a towel with a beagle in my lap.

It is insane how the right bemoans the "dream". Lets stop lying and promoting "hard work". That is a bullshit cliche the economic right sells to get workers to chase the carrot on the hamster wheel.

Now of course sweat in life is required. But how many times do you hear parents say, "I did what I did to make your life easier". If work was all about abusing oneself, then why invent anything at all? The Pony Express, delivering mail on a horse was far harder than sending an e-mail. A horse is easier than walking, a car is easier than a horse. Email is easier than snail mail. So lets get over this bullshit that work always needs to be hard.

You only work 13 hours a year. AWESOME, and nobody should begrudge you for that. What I hate about the right is that they want to spread their misery to workers and sell pain as happiness, sell indentured slavery as loyalty. 

I didn't make it to the level of pay my mom did. I do know that she did a lot for me. And she saved for me, and as a result I have it easier. I don't know how long her nest egg will last. I do know that if I have my choice of being a rich dick fucking asshole billionaire like 45, or being happy with what my mom gave me, I will take what she gave me over greed.

Weeks, lol, weeks..not that it makes much difference. The real kicker, is that I'd do what I do for free anyway. Meanwhile, the "hurr dur nobody but me works" types clearly hate their jobs..and by extension, their wasted lives.

Never gonna get those hours back, wage slaves.

I am in my forties.  I have 2 master's degrees.  I served in the Air Force.  I worked an average of 12 hours a day as a consultant for the energy industry, and I facilitate more economic activity in each of several transactions I work on per year than you likely do in your entire life time.  Now I focus on making sure powerplants run more efficiently and reliably, from home.  I also likely make significant number of times more in personal income than you.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the United States would likely do better and be more productive with one of me than several of you.

The problem isn't where A-Theist ended up, the problem is his bullshit judgmental attitude that if you don't work 80hrs a week and run your body into the ground killing yourself to make a billionaire rich then you are a loser. My X wife has both a masters and PHD in microbiology. I am not going to say her work was easy, no work  is easy, but she also wasn't in a mud pit digging ditches in 90degree heat 6 days a week either. 

Office jobs are not easy, nobody should claim they are, but all I am saying to A-Thiest is don't shit on those who have to worry about not only paying their bills, but not making ends meet because pay isn't keeping up with the cost of living, on top of it being physically demanding.

It is far easier to spend long hours psychologically when you like what you do on top of having the support not to have to worry about struggling financially. I've done both 12 hour shifts sitting at a desk at a radio station, and 12 hour shifts sweating my ass off in a hot kitchen with no air conditioning. 

I wish I had your degree, I wish I had my X Wife's degree. I like office jobs over sweating. But my brain doesn't process information the same way as those who figure those things out. I am an artist, a poet at heart, and unfortunately that is no the type of thing you can walk into a business and get a job with.

Point is, all jobs, from the top to the bottom are needed, air conditioned or outdoors, rich or poor and middle class. But far too many on the right chase bullshit utopias and think of the bullshit cliche "starter job". Problem is if these judgmental assholes would go into those places they call "starter jobs" during the class time of public schools and colleges, who the fuck is working there when the kids are in school?

There is room for everyone, rich, middle class and poor. Some will move up, some wont. But the worse the pay gap gets the worse it gets for even the rich, because the less pay workers make, the less they buy

Bolding, mine. First off, where did I say that I looked down on anyone who has a low paying job? That's right. I didn't. I only referenced the lazy ass kids who'd rather spend their time behind a computer screen or play video games rather than having actual jobs. Hey, if a low wage job is all you can find, at least you're working and earning honest money. Isn't that what you said? I agree with you on that point.

But if there is anything that doesn't motivate a kid, and I know. I hated it when my dad treated me like his slave. I can remember a huge snowstorm in Annapolis MD, and our driveway and his Mercedes was buried in 4 feet of snow. That morning after the snow stopped, he told me to go out to the driveway and dig it out. I happily went out and started shoveling expecting him to follow. He did not, now please don't lecture me about "lazy".

You sure you want me to address your points in #136? I avoided it because you won't like what I have to say and it would turn out to be a very heated back and forth. One point, just because you're a white guy who leans a bit to the left who lives in Texas and that you have minorities in your family doesn't impress me in any way that you're an authority on race relations in the South. My family's originally from one of the border states. Most of them now have migrated into Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.  I know a bit about Southern culture, too.
