The Jedi completely failed the galaxy, so they are symbols of a system not worthy of emulation. It was "time for the Jedi to end" before Palpatine became chancellor.

It's kind of an amalgam of ideas that I think would be cool, but I suppose that I did lovingly rip off the "Zombie Goat" idea from Half Life: Full Life Consequences.
