Sorry, I should have made that clear.

Ok. I wouldn't. Can you explain to me why a person would feel remorseful towards God for a mistake they made that did god no harm? I don't get it. If I had sex with Carl's wife, why would I be sorry to God for that? I genuinely don't understand.

Because the belief is that our wrongdoings hurt God. Specifically those wrongdoings that hurt other people, because each one of those people are God's children.

...Anyway, that's the idea behind why we ask forgiveness from God, so that's what I was going for when I mentioned feeling remorse on the OP.

It's been my impression that many on this board hate the idea of a god of any sort. But perhaps I have misunderstood.

A misunderstanding? Are you sure it has never been explained to you that it's impossible to hate something you don't believe exists.

Yes. Which is why I didn't say I thought you hated God. I said I thought you hated the idea of a god.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I suppose if I really believed my wrong doing had hurt god I would be sorry to him.

Fair enough. What all do you think I am implying?

No, no.  I just mean, if the God of Christianity, specifically, is "true", there are a lot of implications involved with that particular hypothetical, and I think people are (fairly) adressing some of them.

Well what I tried to explain in the OP is that in the hypothetical scenario you would ask God all the questions you had, thus addressing all of these implications that would be involved. And whatever His answers were, ultimately it would make you come out seeing that He is actually good.

BTW mods, whats with that closed thread? Lol, i wrote out a response but wasnt able to post it bc the thread had closed before i had a chance to...

The problem is there's nothing the Christian God could say to convince me he is good.

It would have to convince me that torturing and killing your own son because the neighbors kid misbehaved is a good idea.

(October 5, 2017 at 6:21 pm)Catholic_Lady Wrote: Ok, so let's suppose that God really does exist and that He proved His existence to you. He showed up and did exactly whatever was needed to convince you personally that He is real.

You had a conversation with Him for many many hours, over the course of many days in a row, and He even showed you things... like certain things in the future of humanity so you could see how everything will ultimately fall together. He took you back in time so you could see particular events, including many moments from the life of Jesus. He showed you what the afterlife is like, fully answered every single one of your questions about why He allows certain things to happen, etc, and cleared up all misconceptions and misunderstandings you have had that made you think He was bad.

Let's say you came away from all that realizing God isn't who you thought He would have been, but is actually completely good. Would you then want to be with Him? Want to follow His ways? Feel remorse for the times in your life when you acted wrongly?

...Or would you feel angry and continue on hating the idea of God (even after learning He actually is good), hating the idea of having to "answer" to a higher being, etc?

Boy, are you stacking the deck in his favor. Acknowledge, at least, that there is no excuse whatsoever that he could give that would be good enough for all the shit the bible lays at his feet, and what is allowed to happen with no intervention today.

Oh, and REAL fucking classy trying to lay a guilt trip on US at the end, but letting him off scot-free. How do you expect no one to think you've been fucked up living your life thinking like this?

I expect my porn collection would become much more interesting.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.
