Under The Radar, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @Brianrrs37)
Under the radar
Means just that
It does not mean
You survived death
If you are revived
To take another breath
In full faculty
You were never dead
If you heart stops
And you make it through
All that means
There was a window
A window,
Just enough juice
Even if medical equipment
Doesn't detect it
But once enough
Of your brian cells die
You don't come back
You don't survive
The heart stopping
Only means it stopped
Within a window
Revival is possible
"Life after death"
Is not anthing more
Than our species desire
To live ever more
It isn't real
If it were
You could decapitate someone
And magically cure
My mother did not
At the funeral home
Climb out of her casket
Though I was desperate
Wanting more
Time with her
But utopia thinking
Isn't a cure
If you come back
A doctor did that
Not a string puller
No rabbit out of a hat
Your neurons do fire
After the heart stops
But within a window
Is what makes it possible
I watched my mom die
And on that last day
I could tell
There was no way
What I was seeing
Was the brain dying
The person I loved
In her decline
I will not take pain
Or that of death
As harsh the reality
And sugar coat it
There is no
Life after death
There is no such thing
As reincarnation
What comforts me
Is the time I have
With loved ones and friends
And the things we did
I am thrilled
Science has figured
How to pull someone out
Who is still in that window
But no matter what
It is only so much
The reaper will get
Every one of us.
Instead of dreaming
Thank medicine
Thank a doctor
For saving you
But your delusion
Is nothing new
King Tut's Egypt
Had their fictions too
Spend your one life
In non violence
Value science and reason
Family and friends
For in the end
It always ends
A second chance
Means you were never dead.
(END)
