Actually, by keeping the focus on Trump and whatever idiotic shit drops out of his mouth next, it means that attention is drawn away from other areas, other things that TPTB might want to slip out unnoticed. Political sleight of hand.

Putin wants to get his money's worth from his boy. Russia's long game involves the citizens of major Western countries becoming increasingly disillusioned by their governments, distrustful of their institutions, and divided amongst themselves. It's in their interest that Trump staggers into a second term. Putin understands how unlikely that is so long as a growing majority of Americans view Trump as the dangerous, contemptible clown he is and say it out loud and often. And so he (of all people) presumes to lecture us about our internal politics. Those are some big brass balls.

Despite its resources and achievements, Russia is one of the most miserable places on the planet. The climate sucks, the people are poor and they don't get any respect. Putin makes them feel important because they perceive him as strong. If only they understood that he diminishes their respect. The Russian people are awesome. They have prevailed under very difficult circumstances. They deserve so much better than Putin. If only they could recognize that.
