Do you feel different about Bill Clinton's sexual past?

RE: Do you feel different about Bill Clinton's sexual past?
Bill Clinton was just as sleazy with females as the current batch of sleazy men in power today. His behavior wasn't any better than Roy Moore and his predations on teen girls, in my opinion. I say that as a woman and a Bill Clinton voter.

The difference is that back then, Bill Clinton's victims were mocked, called sluts and disbelieved and today we have Mitch McConnell saying about a predator in his own party "I believe the women".

Yes, times men are starting to change and that is a good thing.

The Scandal Made Me Famous ep on Lewinski really brought home to me how appallingly bad Clinton's judgment was in going forward with the affair. Monica was far too emotional, reckless, irrational and incautious to be even remotely plausible as a 'candidate' for anything sexual. That Bill 'did the calculation' and decided the reward (quickie orgasms) merited the risk is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine 'vast' prior experience led him to feel he could control this one too, and to do so adequately. Giving Monica a copy of Whitman's Leaves of Grass delineates a further appalling lapse on his part in thinking he could manipulate/toy with her feelings with impunity. And while he paid dearly for it, the entire episode is just sickening regardless.

And then there is Linda Tripp . . .

I don't know what to say about her. Srsly, I have no words.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Secondly, what I'm getting at is that he was impeached for lying to the public about having sexual relations with that woman, right? Trump lies to the public all the time and he has most certainly had sexual relations with many women. What makes one impeachable and the other electable?

Lol, some people think of a way to tie trump into everything. If we all got to excuse our behavior by comparing it to Trump, the lot of us would be up for Nobel prizes. I'd say it has limited relevance,  other than as an easy way to change topic and excuse the behavior of those we selectively endorse. Perhap there is nothing wrong with Weinstein either,  if you are going to compare him with trump.

Okay, I'll explain where I'm coming from with my view. My frame of reference for the behaviour of presidents includes
1)Obama
2)Trump
The rest is history for me.
I'm not even American so I don't know much about all the scandals that other past presidents have had. But given this sample size, Clinton's actions don't stand out as particularly unpresidential behaviour. Whether or not it's the intended topic for this thread, the distinction is something I seriously don't get.

As for whether this is acceptable behaviour... uh, hell no. As a young woman myself, this kind of stuff is highly disturbing, but there seems to be a weird underbelly of society (including multiple American presidents) that accepts it. I see what you're saying about comparisons, though. Doesn't change whether it's right or not, but it does freak me out a bit that America still elected Trump with his history. Impeachment is a punishment; election is a reward. That's all.

It would be hard to imagine a feminist today defending him the way that they did in the 1990s, i.e. Gloria Stienems slut shaming article.

I don't care what the Clinton apologists say. If he sexually assaulted anyone, he's a scumbag no better than Weinstein.

I do wonder what McConnell would have said about Moore if he wasn't a Bannon protege.  Somehow, I think it would have gone down differently.

Of course, I'm a known cynic.

Moore is an easy target because he is fucking nuts. If McConnell says he believes Trumps accusers I'll be impressed.

And if Trump says he believes Moore's accusers, that's a sign of the apocalypse.

I hear that. To be comparable we would need to have video emerge from before before his election of Clinton bragging to someone with a live mike on that interns are great. "I just get them to tie my shoe, whip it out and swat them on the head with it." And then when asked about it during the election to have said "aw come on, boys are gonna be boys, right?"

What Clinton did was vile but Trump himself is vile.

Yeah, and the public reaction when this surfaces during the campaign is, "Sure, that seems reasonable. This guy has my vote."
