Who understands God? The only understanding of God that will ever mean anything to you is your own life experiences--please share! What you know was given you by the Living God regardless of whether you acknowledge God's interplay with your life, or not, and your life is valuable info to many because we never went there, you did! The most important thing then is your own life. Anyone can read Scripture yet, how many have lived it? Anyone can read, "We live by faith, not by sight" yet, how many have lived and experienced that? Life will always supersede Scripture which itself is life--God demands it! Or else it's all sola scriptura and the man behind the pulpit. [edited to add] and the Wicked Witch!

There are things our bodies know how to do which it does less well when we try take the wheel consciously.  There is an art to seeing it happen without taking over which I'm sure a surfer dude would realize.  If I was religious that would be so confirming.  It takes some faith to go with the flow and allow know-how to happen that only requires a willingness to participate.  Insert joke about the scientist who can no longer take a dump without reading a schematic.  Some things (more than one might suppose) do not require our over eager decision making capacity.

I am capable of faith but what I have faith in is not something I conceptualize as 'out there'.  There is simply more to me than what flows from my deliberate decision making.  The rest of what I am is best conceptualized as 'other internal', it will never be subsumed under my conscious decision making capacity.  It is potent in its own way but what (narrow) I does is also important, vital really.  What need is there for any scriptura at all?

I must be honest, I'm sick and tired of repeating this in so many topics: yes, I AM God. You're God too! Congratulations!

But "omniscient"? I'm not so sure about that.

Boru

Indeed there is no evidence that there isn't a hyper intelligence slug forming a highly complex and scientifically advanced society in the Andromeda galaxy, so we should all believe that there is a hyper intelligent slug society, oh and they hate gays.

It is a poor argument with nothing to go for it.
Mind slugs? Now there's an interesting what-if to think about.
It's just as plausible as God. Maybe it is God.

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Q) So, you're an atheist?
A) yes.

Q) That means that beyond your vast resources of ideas: there is no God?
A) There is no god.

That means that you are omniscient and that you ARE God!

Then bowing to my knees I yell out, "Command me my Lord!"

Atheism is nothing more than NOT being convinced that a god or gods exist. It is not necessarily the claim that no gods exist.

So, your entire little dialog is nothing but a straw man.

I don't have to be omniscient in order to say that, as of now, I haven't been presented with sufficient demonstrable evidence and reasoned argument to support the claim made by theists, that a god exists.

I guess you also must be omniscient in order to disbelieve in Shiva, Ahura Mazda, Ba'al, and all the other 1000's of gods, right?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

A fool says in his heart there is no god. A wise man states it loudly.

But take it from me. No one says anything in their heart, or with their heart.
