So basically my development was hindered and if I have a child I will hinder his/her development. Got it. Good thing I'm on AF where I can talk to the "more developed" members of society.

That is what we're here for. If your parents put some god before you, saying you might have to do without because they need to pray or give tithes or whatever, I feel for you. I was lucky to not have fundie parents.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there aren't many women who think a guy like that is marriage material. Knowing she'll always come second in his life, if even that far.

I'm pretty sure this isn't at all what the priest was insinuating a parent should do, but I think you know that.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You took away something else from it? He said point blank that if you're not devoting the greater part of your time, money, and energy to god, you're not living your life right. Meaning things like your health and family come second, if even that. If you had to choose one week between giving your tithe of ten percent of your income to the church, and making sure your children got enough to eat that week, what do you think is the correct choice?

I'm Catholic. I've been taught about "making God the center of your life" and all that. And it certainly does not mean neglecting your duties... especially your duties to your family and your children. Also, he didn't even mention the word tithes. But hey, if it helps your anti Catholic narrative to believe we are taught to neglect our children, I'll let you go ahead and keep thinking that.

He said money, and I assumed tithes is part of that. and yeah, protestants are taught that too. It's not just catholics. I know there are people who believe that's exactly what it means, hence kids being abused and neglected, to the point of death, and the parents hiding behind religious beliefs. Since when was Jesus pro family anyway? Pretty sure he said your enemies will be the members of your household. I guess it depends on which verses you read.

I just take his words to the logical conclusion. But if I'm being annoying, I'll hop out of this discussion.
