Can an Atheist argue someone out of faith?

It is highly unlikely that an atheist could argue me out of my faith. However, I'm open minded enough to listen to the arguments.

I questioned why a god would allow things such as birth defects and asked how religion explains it and you called me ignorant.

Birth defects are part of life. It has nothing to do with religion. Anyone who can't undertand something as simple as that probably can't understand many other things, and should be spending their time actually learning rather than asking questions based on ignorance of the highest order.

I don't want to sound inflammatory, but I've already read some Dawkins, Dennit, and Hitchens and found that their arguments, while well thought out, didn't do much to dissuade anyone from believing. I am of course biased, and perhaps I just don't connect with their way of thinking, so I would appreciate your recommendations.

I am atheist who while agreeing with the basics of what Dawkins, Dennett and Hitchens are arguing (the non-existence of god and religion being a natural phenomenon). I disagree with them on assumption that religion is always a bad thing for society.

Anyway I find a lot of the arguments of the well known Christian apologists (such as Lee Strobel, Ravi Zacharias, William Lane Craig, etc) to be actually quite weak and just same old arguments rehashed. Strobel for instance in his book Case for a Creator talked about the beginnings of life being a mystery that would not be solved, however very recently scientists created artificial life in a lab.
