Dealing with homophobia on Atheist Forums

RE: Dealing with homophobia on Atheist Forums
It's good that you're not denying it. Closet homophobes are the worst.
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken

'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.

'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain

'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln

I used to think that, until I realized that I was a flawed being and that I, too, could tell people to stop being ridiculous.

I am also intolerant of premeditated stupidity and loud ideologues.

One year of being a deist and thinking that God and science were compatible until I realized that it was ridiculous to suppose existence of a god without any evidence. So I dropped that.

I also dropped the purity of tolerating intolerance, as all it did was allow those who were profoundly intolerant to abuse my character and good will for their hatred, which would not change or be affected by my inaction.

I learned that action speaks louder than inaction and passivity.

And I also came to grips that I as a limited being wouldn't be able to form a pure, logical definition of behaviors to follow, so I must make do with the incompleteness of my ideology. Therefore, I grew to embrace pragmatism and making things work.

Sounds like you put a lot of thought into all that.

I don't know... stop caring. People have made fun of my preferences before and I just genuinely laugh at it, then encourage that person to continue their behavior. But I guess that's just me.

Just igonore it. Things are changing. All be it very slowly, they are changing.

The Australian government has just passed a bill, lodged by the newly elected Green member Adam Brandt, to discuss Gay marriage. Although it was very close 73 - 72, the bill was passed and will be discussed.

Things are changing, slowly, but surely.
