My guess is that's evidence you're a happy person then. The happiest moments of my life I rushed through my meals because even the tastiest meals were fucking boring in comparison to the other awesome shit I was doing. Food seems to only be a pleasure when I don't have much else to be happy about.

Do you think if you ever became depressed food would suddenly be the highlight of your day?

Could be. Good hypothesis as to why overeating is correlated with depression in general. I don't know what would happen if I became depressed. I haven't had any mental health issues in almost a decade, but when I did they all manifest as anxiety rather tham depression. I don't think I've ever been depressed in the long term, only time I've experienced it is as a comedown from LSD. The depression hangover. Which was pretty awful.

While your theory is probably right for depressed overeaters, personally I just don't enjoy food enough to see me ever being an overeater. Hence why I'm so skinny. Sex on the other hand.....

I can't tell the difference between hunger, thirst, horniness and other needs most of the time. I just feel that something is "missing" so I end up doing all of them until I find out which the need was.

Unless my stomach hurts, my mouth gets dry or my penis gets very erect I have no idea. I just feel "empty".

Sometimes it turns out I'm unhappy I think. Or bored. Or lonely. Lol.

I just have to try all of the above until I find out what was missing.

So it's not tough, just awkward.

I'd give up sex. I really really love sex but I haven't had it in awhile now because of first being heavily pregnant and then having given birth. I don't feel like having sex, the drive isn't there because I'm in pain down there but I miss the intimacy with my husband. We still cuddle and kiss but it's not the same. I want to have sex without feeling the physical need so I know giving up the desire won't make the want go away. That being said my marriage hasn't changed from not having sex. If anything my paranoia about being cheated on has vanished and I could still be happy not having sex. (Mind you we have done open relationship before so if he kept the need for sex and I lost it I would let him have sex else where if he stayed in love with only me)

As for food our lives and cultures are built around food. Our holidays are spent cooking all day then enjoying the results as a family. Our gatherings with friends are over lunch and dinner. To not be a part of that anymore would be devastating. When I was on a strict diet I couldn't eat much so when we went out to lunch with family I sat there watching everyone else eat all the good stuff. I wasn't hungry so I didn't want food but I missed taking part in it.

Long story short- sex is losing something with one person that I could make up for in other ways. Food I lose culture and feeling like I'm part of something.

Sorry if I'm mistaken, I was under the impression you had ASD.

It's interesting if you do have it but you don't think that's due to the ASD though. Because hyposensitivty of any senses can be symptomatic of ASD.
Oh, I do have an ASD. I just don’t think it’s related to my dysosmia, especially since I actually did have a decent sense of smell when I was younger. I know some foods cause me to freak out when I eat them, that's been a constant, but I could usually smell them when I was a kid. It happens more rarely now that I can smell them, except maybe for a few seconds.
