Alabama gets $1.6 billion auto plant

How come you left out the bribery part?
Quote:Alabama will provide tax incentives. Officials said the state tax incentives were worth $370 million, but they did not disclose how much the local incentives were worth. Embarrassed?
4,000 x 50,000 = 200,000,000 just in salary being brought into the economy. Seems foolish to give out a 370 million tax break just to get 200,000,000 in salary a year (on top of benefits and whatever taxes are left to be charged).

When states see a project which they think will be a net winner for their state, they offer incentives to try to be more attractive than other states in the running. It's the same as a phone carrier offering you a deal on a phone because they'll get you as a customer for 2 years or more. Quote:Embarrassed? No. You should be. This isn't something new, or partisan.
I'm not too put out throwing a bone to a state that recently put a dem in the senate.
Almost wondering why the deal wasn't nixed to 'send a message'. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

If the plant goes to another state, your state gets $-0- in tax revenues.
This is the expected outcome with a slashed corporate tax rate. Companies are making decisions to promote future corporate welfare.
4000 people are going to benefit greatly from this. I am sincerely happy for them. This is in no way a bad thing. Generations of Alabamians will benefit from having a plant in their town. However, as the defecit booms, more people are left in the dark without adequate healthcare, and the inevitable crash comes, we'll see how the 50 cent raise at WalMart helps. Seems clear that 200,000,000 a year in salary alone far outweighs 370m in tax breaks in terms of benefiting the area. RE: Alabama gets $1.6 billion auto plant

Oh, yes. The future of American greatness clearly rests with technical college education and blue collar manufacturing jobs. Make America great again.
Let the China be small, the Chinese be University educated, and relegate all the undesirable white color jobs to the Chinese. Fucking morons. RE: Alabama gets $1.6 billion auto plant

I think the problem with younger people in recent generations, is that we have millions of people who should probably be mindlessly pushing a button at the widget factory 8 hours a day 40 hours a week until they retire, but the mindless button pushing jobs are gone. Historically, that would be their role. But now we're trying to herd a lot of people who are suited for grunt work into jobs that require a lot more. The population just isn't evolving fast enough, and probably can't evolve fast enough to turn all the would be dullards into productive tech savvy folks. There's just an issue of aptitude. And for that portion of the population, it's important we have appropriate jobs like this. We need more work in the gap between flipping burgers at McDonald's and developing software. |
