Metalheads Discussion - Revived
The original thread was really old so here is a new thread about heavy metal.

So, anyone going to any concerts soon? There's a Machine Head concert in March I'm pretty pumped about.

I have been starved for concerts. Hadn’t gone all year last year. Going this April to see a little known band. Meanwhile the memories of Decapitated in 2016 are keeping me going.

Nothing coming up for me. Last one was Iron Maiden in Las Vegas last July.

I saw Maiden two years ago. Man that made me feel like a little kid again.

Aw man. I wanted to see them last summer but I kinda missed my chance. They're my favorite, man. If they were having a concert anywhere near me I'd go.

I ADORE some metal. If you can call it metal. It's certainly heavy rock. I just have some very specific tastes. Here's some stuff I love:

Prog. Not really metal metal. Adam Jones himself says he feels like taking a shower whenever someone calls Tool a metal band lol

A lot of my favorite bands get categorized into genres they don't like.

It's certainly progressive metal. At least to an extent. Same with Riverside.

Either way, Lateralus is one of the best albums ever made. And I fucking adore Rapid Eye Movement by Riverside, too.

Personally I'm not a fan of limiting truly awesome music to any genres anyway... as they often don't fit.

Like my favorite band ever, Orbital, are they techno? Are they electronica? Trance? Breakbeat? Progressive Techno? IDM? All of the above? The closest you get to their style is Underworld.... probably down to the fact both bands are friends with each other and they started making music around the same time around the same scene. But Orbital are still way more melodic and Underworld are more trancey.... and Underworld use surreal vocals throughout all their music. Anyways...

I think the best bands often are a blend of different styles. They offer something unique.

And albums are especially delicious works of art.

10,000 days is great. But the tracks are more hit and miss than Lateralus. Every track is perfect on Lateralus.

I'd say Parabol + Parabola together is my favorite stuff Tool has ever done.

Have you heard Porcupine Tree?

They're very progressive. Here's one of my favorites by them:

And the opener to Rapid Eye Movement by Riverside has gotta be another killer:

They don't cover the western US very well. I had to fly almost a thousand miles to see them I could have gone to the SF Bay area which would have been closer, still would have required a flight though and the dates were inconvenient.

Fucking amazing show.

Exactly! I'm in Oregon, I'd have to fly pretty far but I can't really afford to fly somewhere just for a concert rn.
