Around here -I'm in Saudi Arabia- it's a wasteland compared to Turkey. I don't believe Turkey is doing bad compared to other countries in the region; I mean until recently -few months- Saudi Arabia was banning women from driving cars. That's how bad things were.
I don't think a president from the "Muslim Brotherhood" is your problem. I know because I was in Egypt when the army butchered Mohammed Mursi's followers.
The worst in the region, are the armies and the so called "secular parties". Savages who think that secular intellectual is all about "drinking Whiskey" and "wearing western-looking attitudes".
Even without Erdogan, Kurds and Turkey will skirmish. Syria is close not due to Erdogan; but due to geography.
But I'm thinking about immigrating myself. Now is the time. But not due to Islam. It's because the Middle East is inhospitable. Things were good under the Ottomans. I didn't vote for this hell.
