I am an atheist and I want to apply for asylum.
Hi I live in Turkey. Government is so bad I don't feel like I belong to this Turkish muslim community. I live in Istanbul and I want to apply asylum in USA. Has anyone done that here? any advices? Would i get accepted? My english is not so good I hope you don't mind.. Our minister of religion authorities says stupid things like you can marry with 9 years old girl wtf... It is disgusting... I can prove it with newspapers and so much other things. I mean I don't want to live here I just want to live in a country with freedom like USA. anyother country may be ok but I only know english little bit I just need some speaking exercise. I can do that with turist visa and apply for asylum.. I don't think other countries like Germany because I don't trust myself on learning their language but at least I know some english and I think I can improve it. I am 19 years old high school graduated. Preparing for university exams. I want to go to USA with Work and Travel program to see American Dream... Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

My family is muslim I also was a muslim but I think islam is not true I mean there are so confusing things also there are other religions like maybe 500 how can you know which one is true? My family is old like they are in their 60s and they don't know that I am an atheist I didn't tell them to not make them sad. If they knew, they would thought that they will go to hell because their son has became qafir.. I may also have a fight with my dad. He is a religious man..

Before Republic of Turkey our country was called Ottoman Empire State. After WW1 Ottoman Empire State was colapsed. And Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (our first president and founder of modern Turkey) re-build a country and made it Secular Republic and named it Turkey. Gave women right to vote and be elected. But now in 21st century our president Erdogan makes islamic statements this is also against our laws because Turkey is not muslim country in laws. But %90 population is muslim at least 70 millions people. I dont want to live in a country with 70 millions muslim. Our ministiries has become more like islamic ruled country. Imagine your 9 years old daughter marriages 30 years old man.. This is unbelieveable also in military they pray before meals like "Allah protect Turks" Erdogan made it like this. Just a few years ago our military personnel used to say "God protect Turks" but now they say Allah and this is also against rules because Turkey is not muslim country it is secular republic. This is another reason that I don't want islamic president like Erdogan.

Also it was not allowed to women military personnel wear hijabs. Erdogan made it allowed to join army womens with hijabs. !! This is not islamic country leave it alone Erdogan!!

This was not allowed but erdogan permitted it wtf man.. This is secular country not muslim.

An asylum seeker must prove they have a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, other minority group (like LGBTQ), or political stances. If you're a Kurd or a known political dissident, you would probably have a strong case based on that.

If you're worried about persecution in Turkey and want to go somewhere they speak English, try Canada, because Jah knows a lot of the Yanks here have considered moving there. Besides the massive upheaval inherent in moving to another country, I can't think of much in the way of drawbacks (with the possible exceptions of their bilingualism [you may be expected to figure out some French, especially if you settle in Quebec] and their laws on cartoon porn.)

I imagine Europe would probably be a better bet than America. Our laws regarding refugee status are fairly strict.

Not to mention the fact that it would seem to be much easier for you to reach a European country.

Good luck whichever way you decide.

Right now the best you could do is apply to a few countries and see what happens, even though you will probably be turned down it will give you things to consider the next time you apply. Ever think about a student visa to study in another country. Actually I'm not really an advocate of cut and run unless you are being persecuted, people should stay home and change those things they do not like. You say you want the freedoms the United States affords, we didn't get them by cutting and running we fought for what we now have, why, because it's the right thing to do.

By fighting in organized groups. Organizing even peaceful resistance to the status quo in Turkey might get him arrested or worse. It's not that easy. Turkey is very repressed in it's politics and media.

I think you're projecting your situation of having basic rights onto ck34.

You think our forefathers didn't face death, you think Dr. Martin Luther King didn't face death threats and finial was killed, freedom comes with a high price and it may result in our death a death that will benefit the next generations. The people of this country have never run from a fight for freedom and we actually run to fights to free others who should be doing this for themselves. I have no situation others have made my way by giving their lives and I appreciate and applaud them for their sacrifice.
