I saw Forrest Gump when it first came out. It was awful! Fortunately, I never had to see it again. Bleh.

Well, I worked at at movie theater then. I had to clean all the fucking garbage off the floors for that movie and Lion King. The box office bomb Wyatt Earp and Lassie were my respite that year.

Trainspotting - I've read the sequal and the prequal and I love pretty much every story by Irvine Welsh.  I love the original film, and I've watched and read Acid House.

Titanic.  I thought it would be bad but I actually liked it but it's been a while since I've seen it.

Forrest Gump.  I think if you don't get emotional while watching this film you have no soul.

The Karate Kid.  I think every negative thing said about the film is true, but I just see it as a kid's film and I think for kids it was a good film, I liked it when I was a kid anyway. The 80s soundtrack is fucking amazing.

Dumb and Dumber - again it has been ages since I've watched this but it made me laugh when I was a kid.

The goonies.  Yet again I might be judging this from my childhood memories but even when I watch clips of it now I get a sentimental feeling. It's a bunch of kids going into a cave hunting pirate treasure in the 80s.  I don't think a film like that CAN possible be bad.

Agree on Titanic (I'd recommend the Historical Commentary on the 10th anniversary DVD, it's fantastic), Forrest Gump (just watched it again a few weeks ago and it's still good), and The Goonies - what's wrong with you people?  A modern day pirate treasure movie, based in Astoria, cutie kid Sean Astin, endlessly quotable... and there's an organ made out of bones, people!  BONES!!!!

I don't know that it qualifies, but Hostiles is getting "rave reviews" as "the best western in years" and I'm amazed I didn't fall asleep during it.  Boooooriiiiiiing....  Would not recommend.

The pixar movie Cars is one I can't stand, but I also can't stand the guy who does the voice of the tow truck.  One of Pixar's lesser efforts, IMO.

Top Gun.  Was my ex-boyfriend's favorite movie and it's soooooo boooriiiinng.... good music though.  Tom Cruise comes off as an asshole in it.  To be fair, he comes off as an asshole in a lot of his movies.

Anyway, my $0.02: Citizen Kane.

I was SO hyped for it. Everyone was saying "best film ever"... And I just didn't think it was all that great.

It's relative to the time period in which it was realized. Some ground breaking cinematography.

Two hours of guys walking around in the snow on cloudy days, followed by a ten-minute fight. One of the most over-hyped movies of all time. Turned into an Emperor Has no Clothes scenario - everyone felt like they had to say it was great even though it sucked.

I fuckin loved that movie.

ANY SUPERHERO MOVIE RELEASED SINCE THE FIRST AVENGERS IN 2012 CAN GO FUCK ITSELF. THEY'RE SO BORING. THEY FOLLOW THE SAME OLD FORMULA. THERE'S NOTHING INTERESTING AVOUT WATCHING NEAR INVINCIBLE PEOPLE BASH THROUGH BUILDINGS. THERE'S NO SUBSTANCE

Amen, brother.

But the point at which I decided that the superhero movie franchises can go fuck themselves came well before 2012.

There were just less of them in general before Marvel went crazy pumping out movies.

Y'all are breaking my heart with hatin on Forrest Gump but that's just cause I love the movie and Tom Hanks soooooo much. Hanks is 100% my favorite actor. I watched Forrest Gump when I was little and I liked it well enough but when I watched it as a teenager and realized how much more to Jenny there was than I had thought before I was floored. I had thought she was just another hippy caught up in the era but to learn she was sexually abused, taken away by CPS, then made to deal with all that in a time where you didn't talk about that stuff it's no wonder she did the things she did. Then to get AIDS, reconnect with Forrest and die loved... omg I get teary just thinking about it.

As for hating on other movies... The Breakfast Club. I HATE that movie so much. Partially because of Molly but also because it's too 'let's fit the pieces together perfectly' I hate movies where everything works out great. Don't even get me started on Harry Potter's ending. I can't even watch the last movie anymore.

American beauty

Something about that film bores me to death.
I can't put my finger on it.

Though I liked The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I can't sit through the last hour of The Return of the King. When I saw it in the theater, I squirmed in my seat and thought, "Just . . . end it. Pick a fucking ending and be done already!"

I'm not this angered by them but I could really care less about the vast majority of the Marvel movies. I like Iron Man, Captain America, and the first Avengers but the others I couldn't care about. I thoroughly hated Thor, it was the stupidest movie I'd seen in a long long time and I was incredibly annoyed by Natalie Portman's character turning from a smart, capable woman into an eyelash batting twit.

That and I hate the bit with Frodo hanging over the lava and Sam saying Give me your hand. That was completely unnecessary and has been done so many times before. In general Peter Jackson seems to think the threat of falling is about he most exciting thing that can be put on a movie screen.
