Almost anything by Mavis Staples.

And Patty Griffin isn't too bad for a white girl.

I'm down with the direction this thread is going: Sister Rosetta Tharpe-- blues musician, often given credit for being one of the pioneers who invented rock n roll-- sings a mean gospel tune. One of my favorite musicians ever.

And the aforementioned Aretha song:

PS: Rosetta's guitar isn't really featured in the above song, but anyone who loves a mean electric guitar should look her up on YouTube.

That's right. These ignorant fuckwads are complaining that a civic event honoring the greatest American civil rights leader in modern history, Martin Luther King Jr., a Doctor of Theology and Baptist Minister, included...shock and horror...Gospel music!

Leave it to the douche bag who would put statues of traitors who killed for slavery all over the south to bleed bitter and shed crocodile tears at controversy during celebration of MLK.

And yet that resulted in this tragedy :

The pseudo-religious almost as good ...

That's awesome man. Will definitely watch. The tune near the beginning is "Up Above My Head" (where she's wailing in the guitar). I should have posted that one. It's one of her best. She does a good "Trouble in Mind" too if you're feeling like the blues. Definitely a legendary musician.

Mighty Clouds of Joy performing Mighty High, a song that charted on the disco/dance charts in '76.  Your vorlon UNDOUBTEDLY danced to this great song in gay discos with gay mens !!!

I'd hate to think any of that was destined to become un-PC during my lifetime.

Srsly . . .

like so much of that old stuff I find on-line these days, I choke up a little and my eyes tear up, so many of my friends I came out with in the 70s were gone by the 90s.

Lets not ruin this.
