What's gotten into Italians?

What's gotten into Italians?
Vatican launches exorcism course.

Quote:" ... priest told Vatican Radio that the number of exorcism cases has risen to almost 500,000 each year. Palilla put the increase down to the upturn in people seeking out tarot readers and psychics. Doing so opens the door to the demon and to possession..."

Or are the priests just seeing what they want to see?

The history of Europe is rife with periods superstitious hysteria . Often brought on by periods of crisis . The plague for instance . I'm guessing this is just another one .
Seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.

Church crisis? Such as, you're not going to church so you must be demon possessed?

I was thinking more the lines of all, The economic  crisis, The immigration crisis , The potential nuclear crisis , The cracks forming in the EU . The fact you have big brother Putin not far away . Terrorism , Generally when big continent sweeping crisis like the Plague or Mongols or the Turks WW1 come up. People and the church start seeing demons everywhere . It's generally a manifestation of their own fears and anxieties .

I'm not sure about that. Sure, more stress, more anxiety, more crime....... Those can be addressed by non church entities.

But why demons and exorcism? It feels like a play to prop up a/another false need for the church.
