My parents were so brainwashed that they just didn't know any better or different.
Cure me of something? Like what? You know, I'm not sure why, since my parents themselves are actually converts. My mother's family is jewish and she is a non denominational Christian. My father has eastern religious beliefs that are a little complicated to explain briefly but he is a monotheist, and I'd actually say he's a pretty religious person, although doesn't believe in hell. He came from a secular background and started believing in god after taking LSD (no joke!) Converts are often the most ardent believers.
I'm not really sure their motivation for pushing their beliefs on me from time to time, other than that they are true believers and think it to be true. With my mother, I just promote atheism if she gets too pushy.

Well my parents don't believe in hell. So that's not it. I think it's just that they think they are right and I am wrong.

Ugh, here we go again with these same threads from this same person...
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Do they think you are missing out on the social aspects or 'benefits' of religion/church?

My parents genuinly forbid me to be an atheist and I didn't insult them. I made this tread, because I actually don't understand them and want to walk in their shoes. I'm not mad at them any longer.
Look, I am young, I might've exaggerated in other posts, I admit I did reply too harsh to you sometimes and I'm sorry for that.
But I'm NOT trying to play the victim role. And about that post when I "complained about my religious teacher having a baby", I still don't think I was discriminating, maybe overreacting.
I really disagree with religion, especially with the fundamentalist perspective, and I see children who were taught religion from the moment they're born on an everyday basis. But I would never force anyone to agree with me and I never stated all religious people are awfull. If I ever have children, I will not convert them into atheism, I will tell my viewpoint and give them the freedom to ask any question and believe what they want. If a christian would dislike the fact that I, an atheist, have kids, I wouldn't feel offended as long as they wouldn't be mean to me. Maybe they believe in Hell, and think my kids and I will burn in Hell and they're concerned for us. Maybe they've been brainwashed into thinking that all atheists are evil, or maybe they just believe atheism is wrong and because of that we should be atheists.
Take this example, let's say there are some parents that raise their kids in a way you disagree with. Then imagine the majority of people around you were like that, and because of that you would be sick of their lifestyle. Maybe you wouldn't express it out loud or really care, but you would still disagree.
I wasn't trying to say religious are lesser beings or that they'll be awfull parents. I just dissagree with their religious belief. Religious are humans who have religious belief. If you thought it's bad that a parent teaches their kids a wrong ideology, it would'nt mean you're bigoted.

Because you are making them feel like a failure. Fuck 'em. That's their problem, not yours.
