I didn't mean that I think it was done "solely to spite the other side." I listed that as another thing that made up the whole big picture - people just being tired of feeling alienated and demonized by the other side and wanting something fresh and different that would push back.

I look at this as an indication this country, despite the institutions of a great power built up over 70 years, will not return to any position where it can convincingly function as a state amidst a field of powerful peer competitors for the foreseeable future.
Honestly if this is still a white man's country, then it is ironic that there will be no real country until the current generation of white man who voted for Trump have died off.

US fundamentalists and evangelicals have made adultery a sacrament. Will Satan wither from lack of things to do now ??

There were several things going on. The base of the GOP saw that moderate candidates like Romney and McCain were vilified despite their being the paragons of character and centrist compromise. They got tired of losing for lack of fighting. Trump was willing to confront the biased media. Second the base was fed up with GOP leaders lip service and their failure to stand firm on their promisses.

I can see that. In the end though, McCain and Romney both were more popular candidates. The reason Trump won and they didn't is because Trump was going up against Hillary.

Technically, independents aren't exempting themselves..we're being exempted by the big parties for fear of what it would do to their primaries, lol.
I mean shit...it might make it harder to get Their Boy™ on the ballot! Which is to say, the one they bought and paid for.
If you dems wanted to be -really- subversive..you should all register as republicans and try to control their nominees. Drive their party leftward in a way not entirely dissimilar to how yours was driven rightward.
