Curse word replacement

Curse word replacement
I've become a soon-to-be stepdad to an 8 year old boy, and I have a filthy mouth. In an effort to avoid the constant use of the word "fuck" I have replaced it with the word "fneurgin". I was talking to my girlfriend in his room and I heard the boy rummaging around in the bathroom, the rummaging stopped and he said, "Fneurgin! I can't find it!" I LQTM'ed. I am also a soon-to-be stepdad to a 7 year old girl but she is irrelevent to this story.

I didn't think anyone would give a shizzle about the other fneurgin words.

Fnyoor'-gen is about as close to phonetically spelling it, but to pronounce it correctly I would have to poke you in your damn eye.

Quick thinking? I remember getting angry and began with "son of a b..." then I saw there was a four year old staring at me curiously and I ended with "... bagels are delicious." He just walked away mildly confused. Undecided

I have a stepson about the same age. I've been pretty good about not swearing in front of him, but I have slipped a few times. I explained to him that "bad" words are only inappropriate around certain people and he can't say them because he's not old enough to know when they are appropriate. I've never heard him swear. I'm sure he has around his friends at school (he's a little older than your soon-to-be stepson). However, one day we both had a laugh about the literal pronunciation of Arkansas.

I don't try and stop myself from cursing around kids. Though it's a societal norm, I don't think sheltering kids from words they are bound to here at some point and start using is helpful or anything. That's just me, though. :/ If you don't want your kids hearing curse words, don't bring them around me. Big Grin

I don't care if he hears those words, but I do care that his life will be made difficult by others for repeating words he is too young to understand. He will not get in trouble for saying fneurgin. Smile

RE: Curse word replacement
If I have the presence of mind to replace a curse word with a filler in front of children, I should also have the presence of mind and self control not to say that part at all. If it takes slightly more mental discipline to not say it, then it makes for good practice.
