Weighting the Cherries.

Except that Jesus, in the New Testament (laws of which Christians are supposed to follow), mentions he did not come to abolish the old laws but to uphold them.

What Jesus said right after the part you are referencing is that he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.

There was a recent post where I talked about this [Here]

Theists, I know the bible is a rule book on how to live our lives.
Glob..

The bible/The whole bible represents two completely different religions. and Theists also know passages like this are derived from OT judaism. Meaning these are the rules needed to be followed if one wanted to be an OT jew. The law is divided up into three categories. the social law (rules concerning day to day life, slavery, social activity. there is the temple law/how to worship God then there was the moral law, how one should behave.

We all know that unless we want to be OT jews we do not have to adhere to the temple laws not the social laws. only the moral law is observed, and only in so far as to convict us of sin.

And when you do cherry pick the non moralistic rules, how confident are you that God also doesn't mind what you're ignoring from HIS book?
Maybe God frowns down on murder just as much as wearing mixed fabrics?
On what authority do you know otherwise? From another man? You mean God hasn't told you it's OK to wear mixed fabrics? You are so brave in my book!
So says someone who does not even understand to whom the bible is written. let lone how to apply it.

Quote:I agree, why stop at BONDS polycotton undies.
If we're gonna burn, let's do it properly!
Why not cherry pick the shit out of it till there's nothing left then? The burn isn't going get any hotter is it?

Let the walls of the fallacy dam burst right open!

And a curious omission I have noted. There seems to be no religious groups picketing the White House these days, despite it literally being an actual den of inequity now. Various Christian groups have no trouble summoning warm bodies for abortion clinic protests, yet there is scant interest in deploying the troupes to the White House now. And this isn't over some minor issue like a window box with 2 different kinds of flowers in it. Adultery is a 'big ticket' transgression. Old and New Testament concur.

Wouldn't triage rationale suggest the greatest good could be derived from picketing/protesting the White House?? The visibility and media availability would be overwhelming considerations on where to 'deploy' the witnesses of the Word. A sincere outreach to the president (and his staff of enablers) would send the right message to a nation rapidly becoming increasingly confused on Jesus stand on adultery.

Silence definitely equals consent . . .

Well the bible is the only book worth reading after all.

Nothing to learn elsewhere.

Even the 'believers' have problems with stuff that should be cut and dried however. Jumping from the Jesus orbit to the Trump orbit en masse because Trump doesn't like Hillary (and I thought the standard was he wasn't supposed to like Satan) so abruptly was very disconcerting. And then faith leaders with easy access to Trump fail to witness the word to him, it just looks like none of the believers believe it either.

Is it supposed to be this easy to get the faithful lurching towards our atheist side of the street ??

You need a hermeneutic to interpret scripture. My hermeneutic is that humans invented every word of it.

It certainly seems that way Dunno

Other than that, it's just sheer co-incidence that God's timeless words just happen to coincide with what the goat herders were thinking as well?

Weird huh?
