Quick Poll: Do you speak more than one language?
#11
RE: Quick Poll: Do you speak more than one language?
I tried to learn Japanese through a cheap audio course available through my music subscription service. For a while I suppose I was good enough that I could have been able to get to a train, or hotel, or bathroom etc. if the speaker spoke very clearly. I think. But I stopped about 2 years ago and have retained almost none of it.

I figured it might enhance my enjoyment of Subbed anime.

So I only speak English

I knew German when I was little but now all I can remember are the basics like number to 10, yes, no, please, thank you etc. I took three years of French but my friends were in that class and we goofed off too much. I was able to read it for awhile and again I retained the simple commands (and I can say "Can I go to the restroom?" lol). Also I know a handful of Spanish simply from living so close to Mexico for so long. I can read Spanish enough to understand what is happening but I can't understand someone speaking it at all.

I know enough Spanish to pick up some words if I read it or hear somebody else speaking it, but I could never hold a conversation or write it well.

3 fluently, Faroese, Danish and English. Non-fluently, Swedish and Norwegian.

Also some German. But mostly just the 3 first.

My 15 year old is really into K Pop. So much so that she literally taught herself the Korean alphabet. She can read and write it, but she can't translate it into English. She is slowly learning how to. She also speaks German, which she's trying to teach me. I can't read or write it though.

Do other languages besides Jesus's English even exist ??

I'd wonder if ALL other languages are of the devil, and all speakers and listeners of them are actually hearing Satan's words.

It would explain so very many things . . . .

Is it just me that finds other languages easier to read than speak?

English and Spanish. In fact I'm in Spain currently. I've lived and traveled in Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Argentina and am finishing a 3 month trip in Spain.

Yes indeed, in fact I can read quite a bit of Italian, Portuguese and Catalan but can't speak them at all.

I can read French and German mathematics.

I speak French well enough that Parisians wanted to speak English to me. They knew I was trying, but didn't want their language murdered.
