I used to think that some very bad people being part of religions had turned people away from God. Later I considered that perhaps the suffering in the world had turned people away from God. The more time I spent discussing God with the atheists I know personally and with the atheists I have debated with online, the more I realized something very different. Atheism is almost a personality type.

No, they definitely don't.  The other two believers in here don't even believe what you do, lol...........?  I think that you're reading far too much into club affiliations there, Ev.  You can't even trust that the nutball sitting next to you at your own religious service believes what you do.

As I have told you, you seriously need an education. There are 1.1 Billion Hindus in the world and they all believe that karma or "hell" is happening right here on earth. So do the approx 500 million practicing Buddhists as well as millions of New Age believers.

I normally don't do this, but I want to know how close you are with your parents since you decided to branch out into a theistic lifestyle.

I pride myself in not being anything like anyone else, mainly because I abhor the fallible social construct which decrees we must all be the same.

My mom died when I was 24 (she was only 46) and I am very close to my dad. My sister, who is also one of my best friends is also atheist.

Regardless of what the truth is, we choose to be truthful and honest with ourselves. That honesty is what makes people recognize truth without falsehood and dishonesty is what mixes falsehood with truth.

As for God, if he exists, and I believe he does, then love towards him is a connection, it's not going to be something like how you see everything else, it's a pointer, and it needs to hold to the perfect pointer, or else, like my Deist days, will just make up God to be my stupid thoughts that have no reality or basis, and I will fabricate who he is by mere whims.

Recognizing God as oppose to creating who he is, is the greatest trial. Atheists are mostly hated, because they are unconvinced with all this made up gods, that are not worth people's time.

But the proof for God and recognizing him, it's something most humans trivialize, and instead use God for their political Agendas, for their egos, for hate, for justifying wars, etc...

It's no wonder some humans just think get rid of the big thing on top, and we can get along better!

Yes, I agree with you. Too many horrific things have happened that were supposedly done in the name of religion.  And too much suffering exists in our world and it makes people wonder about what kind of God would allow this to happen? It took me a long time to make my own peace with all of that, but I never really lost faith. I have just always felt a sense a purpose for being here, and I could never imagine a state of not being alive.

Yes, it is the sort of personality that believes more can come from recognizing and acting on facts than on dream that seems attractive and easy to the undisciplined mind.

I don't believe ad-populum is a good reason. Yes, most humans can easily be in illusion. 

That's not a good reason to hold on to faith. Faith has to be built on higher vision then fallacies that don't work lol and they shouldn't be use for 1% increase in faith.
