Wait, wait, wait...

Does that mean you are assholy?

According to the other poster; it would seem so. However I don’t do this when discussing something seriously. I did run into the term “dislikable” a little while ago on the revisionist history podcast. I think I may run into a little bit of that, as I tend to analyze things in depth and become focused on details. I also find that I think much more abstractly than most. So I’m mostly dislikable when debating something, otherwise I get along with most people quite easily. I just like to have a little fun with people who are oversensitive in some areas.

To be fair, atheist is a tricky word to spell if you're not familiar with it. The e and the i can flip around pretty easily. In general though, pointing out someone's grammar/spelling is generally an irrelevant, sometimes dickish move, unless it's genuinely hindering the communication of ideas/points.

I've noticed evangelical preachers speaking the same way. The aaatheist! The gayuh! The liberulll!

That is probably its own category of assholishness, considering that those things can't be taken as possible typos. We wouldn't need a thread about the mystery of why users of those terms use them, it's obvious.

Are you saying they don't hear the plural 's' in 'atheists' and think it doesn't exist?
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I’m horrible at spelling, and I don’t think it’s a big deal to correct if someone is constantly misspelling something. But some make it into a bigger deal than that.

That is a possible reason. But I was referring to you other words from preachers. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like that in type. It it seems like some preachers style of emphasis in speech.

Fair, but it's really hard to come off as sincere over the internet when correcting someone's spelling/grammar since it's so often used as a trolling/insulting tool.  I try to highlight it only when I'm genuinely having trouble understanding the structure/content of a statement.

I had a Pascal programming class in school. My final project was a Yahtzee program with graphics. Since this was week beyond what we where taught; I had to go through line by line with the instructor to show that I didn’t just download it. But I got docked for misspellings in my comments.

Well that's what you get for trying to learn how to speak robot.  Programming is one of those subjects that absolutely bounces off of me, no matter how much I read about it or see tutorials it's like oil and water - I retain and comprehend utterly nothing.

Prior to any programming classes I had been given a comodore 64 and a book on basic from my uncle. I read straight through the book, and proceeded to make a text based black jack game. It wasn’t until afterwards, that I realized that is not how you learn to program. And also as far as I could find, there was no randomization function in that processor, so the game played out the same every time. It worked otherwise though. Programming has always just made sense to me.

Edit: to fix grammar Smile

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
