Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Colorado Baker
RE: Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Colorado Baker
I wish all these people who are fine with discrimination would live in a country where they actually faced discirmination themselves.

Maybe they;d suddenly find an appreciation for those social engineering goals considered desirable by the state, lol.

OTOH, maybe they really would prefer to be persecuted and discriminated against, a longstanding religious dream come true. Who knows.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

First we have to serve gays in our businesses and now we can't kill them? The assault on religious freedom is almost to much to bear, I mean what are they going to go after next, Christmas?

Wedding cakes are stupid and pointless, I don't know why anyone would want to buy one anyway. Weddings themselves are pretty pointless.

That may be, but..obvs..if people are going to run a store that sells wedding cakes they;re going to have to treat human beings like human beings regardless of whether or not their product is ultimately pointless.

In this instance, and as it so often does, SCOTUS punted.

I'm an athiest living in the Midwest. I'm quite sure if I was as open about my atheism at work as some of my co-workers are about their faith, I would not have been promoted to the position/salary I have now at the very least, and at worst might no longer be working for my current employer at all. My plight is not nearly the same as what others face. But I don't live a life that is 100% free discrimination either.

Become an open atheist, and see how much you support freedom of discrimination.

If you want to talk about actual precedent, try this..

1968 Newman vs Piggie Park
The contention was that the civil rights act contravened the will of god. Therefore infringing on the right to free ex. The courts response?

"Patently frivolous."

This colorado baker case set no precedent and was specifically worded so that it did not do so, while simultaneously affirming -in- it;s decision that we no longer give bigots carte blanche to be bigots. It chastized a lower court for procedural missteps in it;s handling of the trial..but it did not affirm his or anyones right to discriminate.

Its the hate cake equivalent of the OJ verdict.
Fuck that cake and fuck the piggie park. The SCOTUS decision had nothing to do with either. You're just pissed off because the Supreme Court said that anti religious bigots in government agencies couldn't discriminate against a person's faith. It was more than just a procedural misstep by that state agency and the lower courts, otherwise you wouldn't be on your ass about it. They showed open hostility and bigotry toward the Baker because of his faith and the Supreme Court slapped them down for it....it affirmed that they didn't have the right to discriminate based on a person's faith. It's also funny just to watch you cry about it.

I already quoted the "open hostility" shown...and it;s up to you to decide whether or not you have a strongly held belief in christ or a strongly held belief that gays don;t have civil rights.

The latter, as the courts have already decided..is patently frivolous.

IMO, if this is what christianity is reduced to, if equality under law really is an existential threat to your faith in whatever it is you believe in...then christianity should just pack it up and quit. It;s as dead and soulless as anything could be.

You're standing here bitching about the anti-religious bigotry of a fucking protestant who suiggested that people should stop using their religions to hurt people as if that isn;t the desperate rambling of a loon whose lost his purchase on society.

-and christ wept.

Then you should understand the problem.  Maybe, just maybe, advocate for a system that gets us as close to 100% free of discrimination as possible..rather than carry water for discriminatory justifications?

You;ve had to keep who you are close to the vest to get promotions. They would have had to do the same to buy a fuckin cake..and hey, you could both go elsewhere...but should you have to? Your plight -is- the same. A violation of one persons civil rights..in any way, is a violation of everyones civil rights. We won;t get closer to that magical 100% until we all fully realize and appreciate this.
