Seems to me you are the one who was overreaching because you don't understand the term being used and what way that term is typically used. You want to pretend that God is completely i the realm of the fanciful. when in truth if he were very few would indeed believe. what you don't want to hear is God is very real and just barely out of site. if this were not true 2/3 of the planet would not believe in some sort of God.

Are witches real? Because at one time, quite a large portion of the population believed they were.

And the catholic church set fire to a sizeable number of the population after declaring them to be witches.

The alleged witches were not very smart.  They could have really messed with the mob's heads if they had yelled out some horrible curses on them.  That's what Jesus did on several occasions.

We don't really know what witches would do if they were real, since they aren't real. We can only imagine what a real witch would do. The same goes for the fictional bible; the writer's had to imagine what a real god would be like, and of course their perceptions were restricted to their primitiveness.

Well yes, that's what witches would do if witches were real.

Witches were any person (warlocks, included), who the Church and/or secular arm wanted to get rid of, for any reason.  One woman was a bit of a busybody and was expelled from a medieval German town.  A few hours later the town was hit by a violent thunderstorm; the woman was arrested, charged with witchcraft and burned alive at the stake.

Of course Jesus is alive. In fact, there are many Jesuses. They mow lawns, cook food, play baseball, etc.

The point is that if the mob thought that witches were real the person getting roasted should have let out a string of curses upon the crowd.  That would have messed with their minds.  It's what Jesus did.  And because Jesus did it people 2,000 years later think that they are going to hell.
