I really don't understand why we allow this to happen. Lets just have one election every four years for our president. Whether it be 10 candidates or 2.

There isn’t much participation apart from the more hard nosed Dems or Republicans. However my feeling is that in practice, they would have a less official primary and limit their prospects anyways. Really need to remove the party system, but that’s not easy either. Our political system has gathered a number of flaws over the years, and I don’t think they will be easy to remove them, without completely starting over.

Do we still let each party pick their candidate?
I shudder at the thought of 10 political parties.

I am sick of the damned thing being 5 million years long. But no, there has to be some choices before you get to the general. India may be an open society, but it also has thousands of political parties and far more of a pay gap and more poverty. Too many cooks as they say. The real problem has been gerrymandering over the past 30 years. (June 28, 2018 at 7:39 am)mh.brewer Wrote: Do we still let each party pick their candidate? It works up here .

Wiki tells me that two parties dominate Canada's politics. Sounds pretty much like the US.

How about we start by eviscerating the electoral college system.

Whether it be 10 candidates or 2. People used to complain about smoke-filled rooms at conventions deciding on the nominees.... that's why we now have primaries and the even more absurd "caucuses." But the fact is that conventions used to produce centrist candidates as opposed to the fascist fuckwits of the right or the bland and boring candidates of the... I don't even want to say "left" because the dems now hold the center and the left is invisible except in the nightmares of the fascisti. |
