Sad, But Not Unexpected

Sad, But Not Unexpected
Arguably the best science fiction short story writer ever, Harlan Ellison, has died at 84.

RE: Sad, But Not Unexpected
Yeah, I picked up a few of his books at a hospice book sale last year.
I've only read Spider Kiss so far which wasn't really sci-fi but I've read quite a few of his short stories over the years, probably in Asimov's science fiction magazine.

Sad, but not a bad age to live to.

I liked some of his stuff. He was a consultant on a number of TV sci fi shows, B5 comes to mind.

I have a bit of his stuff. Sad to see him go.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Followed closely by 'Out Near The Funicular Edge Of The Universe, The Wine Has Been Left Open Too Long And The Memory Has Gone Flat'.

This is the first time I'm hearing of him, what would advice a first time reader of him to start with?

Memos from Purgatory! Not sci-fi but a good view of his character as a writer.
