Problem with american football is that it's not a sustainable sport. Nobody does it as an adult except maybe touch football in the back yard anyway.

I'm also not certain your point. A reason to not play american football professionally is definitely not a reason to not go jogging where there is no risk of concussion. Most sports have no risk of cte. So if that's really a concern, don't do one of those.

Like I pointed out before, every study ever done on the subject shows that sports help depression.

My point is that there at least is an issue with mental health and sports with CTE. I just wanted to see if there was anything else to talk about, especially given that the OP is so vague.

RE: Sport and mental health.
I found out that I have anxiety and anger attacks after a stressful period of life plus stressful job I got in to recently just made things more obvious with my mental state. Sport seems like a good pill.

Yeah, I would wager that the rates of cte (mostly happens in professional combat sports) when compared to the overall population who does sports (millions and millions of people) is not enough to have any sort of significant statistical effect. It just gets a lot of headlines because it involves famous athletes. But the actual number of mental health problems caused by cte would be statistically drowned by the positive benefits that people get from sports.

It's a good reason to not push your kids into football. But not a good reason to not go mountain biking.

I suppose that makes sense. Just be sure to find something that works for you, preferrably something that doesn't have a huge risk of brain damage. Martial arts and rock climbing may be good possibilities,as Capn Awesome says. Granted, Rock climbing may not count as a sport due to not being competitive, and counting more as strenuous exertion, which I think may have much the same benefits as sports do.

Jiu jitsu will take all that anger away. I've literally never met an angry jiu jitsu practicioner. Also unlike rock climbing there is no base level of fitness to get into it and it'll get you into great shape . It's also a good social sport. Bad way to meet women though.

Rock climbing is also a competitive sport. It'll be in the next Olympics.

Depends on the sport you pick and how much of a perfectionist demand you'll put on yourself. If it's a competitive sport and you don't handle loosing well...................
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Then you can learn to handle losing well. If an adult can't handle losing, sports are a great choice. Obviously I'm very pro-doing sports.

Btw purplepurpose I hope you feel better. Join a sport and keep us updated.

I have significant improvement in mental and physical well being after I replaced excessive eating with lot's of pure good quality water. After I done that, workout's on boxing bag don't provoke mental pain but instead removes almost all mental pain. Most importantly I can easily have any diet I want If I drink enough water and having such excellent diet really makes the difference.
