How many holes does a straw have?

RE: How many holes does a straw have?
I believe a straw is topologically identical to a torus. So, it has one hole.

0?
1?
2?

other? Dunno

I instinctively said 2, then realized I'm an idiot!

Any one of the three answers has a very compelling case to be made for it.

Zero: It is merely a tube with a material lining to make it usable, and the connotations we have for "hole" need not apply.
One: The connotations we have for whole need apply, as the hollow center is itself a hole.
Two: Just look at both ends!

It's alarmingly hard to make up one's mind about the answer. Well, as long as I can still draw my milkshake through it when I go to Red Robin's.

I had an MD explain to me that the human G.I. tract is a hollow tube through the body but not considered to be the inside of our body. If something is swallowed, such as poison or food, it is still outside our body until it enters the bloodstream.

Yeah, that was what I was getting at too, but less scientificky.

Who agrees that a test tube and a straw both have exactly 1 hole?

Doesn't make sense does it?

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Makes sense if you accept there are multiple types of hole.

We have a winner! Just because the straw is thinner, doesn't make these two non-equivalent, topologically.
