BoT, I drink instant coffee. When I got in a real hurry to meet deadlines when I still worked, I had a jar of instant coffee in my desk that I shook some out of it into mouth and drank a slug of water to wash it down. No time for heating up and sipping a cup. One time I just said to hell with that and ate coffee nips candy. Now, I have three civilized mugs of coffee a day. I have time to kick back and enjoy it, now.
Have you seen the opening scene to "Nightmare On Elm St. II"? 
... I've never seen the opening scene of any movie with "Nightmare" in the title...or any other part of them, either. I suspect that I might be culturally deprived for life in the US.  Except that I have a bunch of guns, and went to the range today to sight in the scope on my .22 rifle again, because with the dovetail rail, the scope clamps kept slipping forward. Slowly but surely, the shots started going to the right on the target, away from the bullseye. Now I have a Weaver rail and rings, but didn't torque the new rail's screws tight enough, and didn't have the special Metric Allen wrench in the shooting box.  I got decent groups (cover 5 shots with a dime at 50 feet) after I got it sighted in, but then they kept getting bigger.  Ima use Loc-Tite this time.

Cool... I certainly like tea more than coffee but never heard of Chai tea. But generally I'm not really one for hot drinks... even hot chocolate... which I guess that thing can make as well?  Though I'd have them occasionally.
Yes. They have reusable K cups that you fill manually. You can put loose tea leaves or coffee grounds in there and I'm quite sure you can make your own version of hot chocolate too but you generally don't need a filter for hot chocolate.

Right, I think I'm getting the picture  ... I don't have any experience with any sort of coffee machine so as described it just sounded like a glorified kettle; heating up whatever was in the sealed cups... but clearly it does more than that, like filtering and stuff.

There's nothing spooky about it, it's a single-serve coffee pot. Each one is sealed, so they don't degrade as fast as an opened canister of coffee grounds. And I have a few dozen different flavors on hand, so my mood dictates the flavor of the coffee I drink. Very flexible system.
And, after drinking coffee from five gallon peculators I appreciate freshly brewed coffee at 3 PM when I want it.
