Can muslims even be artists or game developers if imagery is forbidden?

Like i read some hadith that says one of the worst of creatures or something are image makers. Question is is it interpreted as idol worship? Or is it just making suggestive to take it as gods meaning they kind of have a literally purpose.
Then again there are authentic hadiths to use pebbles to whipe yourself when finished going to the toilet. And i dont think muslims does that. So if you dont take all literally in sunni islam, could that be loosened on lets say. Lack of death penalty for apostacy? Just wondering. I mean not all muslim countries have death fr apostacy but just saying. Like you can say at the time it was due to tensions or context or whatever. I mean i am not an expert so i have no idea. But just curious to how you view it?
