Obviously, they don't consider it a horrible crime. A horrible crime is something like showing up at our border and asking for asylum.

I can only guess that if you're already with the in-group, they'll try to keep you in, no matter how toxic you are. My roomie likes to call it the "Good Ol Boy's Club", when talking about a crazy neighbor. He's in the club, so no matter what he does, some people will still hang out with him.
