I feel so sorry for you Thor
I'd find it hard to resist the urge to rip someone's head off too

The ones I feel sorry for are the kids who have this crap pounded into their heads. My brother-in-law's wife is really bad! When they go on vacation she has to find a local church so they can attend mass on Sunday. Imagine being one of their kids and you're in a prime vacation spot. You want to do fun stuff and your mother forces you out of bed to go to church.

Yes, when she starts plucking my figures out of the display, I'd love to turn a hose on her!

Maybe I should just put up a sign that says "DO NOT TOUCH!". But I'd bet they'd touch it anyway.

That is terrible , How indoctrinated can you get?
I hated going to church when I was at school. If anything, going to church made me want to believe in God less, it is so damn boring

Quite a lot, apparently. I've been tempted to ask her what she thinks will happen if they skip church while on vacation. Does she think "God" will condemn her to a fire pit for going horseback riding with her kids instead of taking them to church?

I found church to be incredibly boring as a child. Every week they read the same liturgy, recited the same verses, performed the same rituals. Ugh! I couldn't wait for it to be over! I never went unless I was forced to!

She'll probably answer 'yes'

It seems to me that the problem is with your wife, not her family. You and her need to talk about it, perhaps get her to agree not to put it up in the first place.

One thing I find particularly objectionable about christianity is the way it encourages its otherwise socially considerate and civilized adherants to take disgracefully rude advantage of the forbearence of others in the name of the "faith".

I wish I could have back the hours I lost because I was forced to attend church! I would much rather have been playing ball at the schoolyard.
When I was 10 or so my mother used to send me off to church while she stayed home (yeah, great example she set...). One day I was listening to the sermon when I turned around and noticed a friend of mine sitting a few rows back. He motioned for me to come sit with him. I got up and moved to his row, taking up a seat next to my buddy. (I must mention that I moved quickly and quietly.) After the service I was leaving the church and the priest was at the door greeting people as they left. As I walked past I was ready to cheerfully say, "Good morning, Father!". The priest never gave me a chance as he glowered at me and snapped, "You're the one who got up and moved around during the service!". He then proceeded to give me a ration of shit for changing my seat.
Yeah, he really made me want to come back!
Prick.

Yeah, if I had my way she wouldn't put the stupid thing up in the first place, but she looks at it as a way to connect with her late father.
