Why theists really hate Harry Potter

You know, the sad thing is the real reason they hate Harry Potter is because some of them don't understand that The Onion is not a legitimate news source. I wish I were making this up.

They hate Harry Potter because they were told to hate Harry Potter. If they were smarter they'd use him.

GHOSTS: Proof of life after death. That would be the big take-away from the books. Dumbledore, Remus, Lily, James, Sirius, Cedric, all souls who persist after the body is destroyed. And the world of Harry Potter is in a Christian UK. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Christian celebrations. Even Tom Riddle's "tearing his soul apart" would be something they could work into their sermons.

But the knee-jerk reaction to "magic", something JC performed in the NT, won out and they hated him. And their kids couldn't wait to get hold of the books, of course.

I enjoyed the harry potter movies, although I'm probably more of a Tolkien fan.

However I would call this a fairly weak straw man argument (for many Christians anyway).

^^^^^ This is what humans worldwide of every religion do not get.

When we call them out on this bad argument, they pull the "you claim god doesn't exist so you are doing the same."

Um no we are not. And I wish some atheists, not you here, but over the years,  would stop coddling theists with trying to pander to their sense of fairness by "splitting the baby".

There is a lot that many atheists consider over long periods of time combining human history with science and probability that leads us to the conclusion that humans are merely projecting their own qualities into super hero claims.

Understanding when an atheist says, "There is no God/god/s or deities" is as simple as the theist thinking about all the other god claims they reject, and take that rightful rejection and apply the same logic to the one they hold to be true.

If most humans can rightfully say Apollo was made up what makes anyone today think Allah/Yahweh/Jesus are anymore real merely because they are currently popular?

Humans are mostly sold their religion at birth by their parents before they can formulate adult critical thinking skills. 

It is true that as far as the future is concerned, since we have not lived it yet, we make new discoveries all the time.

This is when the theist falsely says, "SEE SEE SEE, even you admit you don't know."

Um no, that is only regarding the future, not the current and not the past. And as far as the current and the past, THERE IS TONS WE DO KNOW, and lots of bad claims have been scrapped as they should be.

If it worked like the theist wants, then everything is true by default all at the same time.

Unicorns explain everything because we don't know the future.

Snarfwidgets fill the gap because we don't know the future.

Spiderman explains the gaps because we don't know the future.

Thor explains all the gaps because we don't know the future.


^^^^^^ I am sure any Muslim or Jew or Christian can agree all those examples are absurd. 

Saying humans make up gods and deities is a far more simple explanation and does not cause the problem of infinite regress.

Just like we once thought the earth was flat, and now we know it is a round globe. 

Claims of super natural beings in our entire human history, both polytheism and monotheism, are mere reflections of humans. 

The universe does not need a magic factory boss. Humans simply need to accept we are a mere blip in all this.

I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings back in 1970. Haven't read them since, I'd have to skip the parts with Frodo and Sam wandering around.

It astounds me that a theist can read Harry Potter, and all the fantastic claims in it, and accept none of those things happen in reality, but a holy book? Well then, all logic flies out the window. Irony meter bursting into flames.

I wouldn’t be so quick on the draw on that one, Road. I grew up in a household and community that despised Harry Potter alongside Pokémon/Digimon (cos evolution... *sigh*) and all other sorts of childhood novelties.

I also remember the Harry Potter book burnings throughout the South.
