RE: Witcher 3
Decision finally made; opted for a PS4 and have ordered it with next day delivery... so hopefully I should be playing Fortnite on it by tomorrow night Wink I just hope this doesn't turn out to be the most expensive whim I've ever had Wink But it has other uses, like as a media player etc, so hopefully I should get some good value out of it, no matter what I end up using it for. At the end of the day went for the PS4 over the Switch because it's more powerful and figured that if I want to play handheld games I can just play them on my phone (which I don't do as it stands and haven't for ages); so ultimately that portable aspect of the Switch is not something I really need. Plus the Switch just seems too much of a rip off in too many ways to feel like a comfortable purchase.

Yeah, I was going to ask that. What difficulty should I start at? I don't like to stress a whole lot over a game but I want some amount of challenge.

Personally, my first run through is usually on the easiest, story mode. Then when I play again, I go for the normal difficulty mode.

Unless you want to make yourself batshit crazy, I would never attempt hardest nightmare mode.

Great... I'm completely addicted to it already and Facepalm that I never got one ages ago Wink But I know that feeling well cos I'm a late-adopter of most techs/trends - that is if they don't completely bypass me... which this could well have done if it weren't, indirectly, for alpha's suggestion to play fortnite Wink

Anyway I'm happy with my new setup; bought an extra controller so I can play with my dad and/or friends, and bought a cool little charging/docking stand for them to save wear and tear on the various USB connections involved and so that I can always have one on the go while the other is charging (since the PS4 has now taken over as my main media centre so it will get a lot of daily use even if I'm not playing games; ie for my streaming apps, so Netflix, YouTube, prime video, Twitch etc), and game wise have bought/acquired a few games to get me/us started; Fortnite of course... the catalyst for all of this... acquired for free, but on top of that I've bought the Sega Megadrive Collection (50+ classic games)... for nostalgic purposes, 99 Vidas (a scrolling beatemup similar to one of our favourites of those classic Megadrive games; Streets Of Rage), Thimbleweed Park, again for nostalgia for times gone by (ie made by the same people and in similar (comic) style to the Monkey Island point and click rpgs of old), and finally, for me alone (ie the rest are mainly nostalgia for both me and my dad) Trackmania Turbo, since I like racing games... and after comparing several racing games on YouTube, that seemed like a good place to start. But that'll do games-wise for the moment; I won't get any more until I've got good value for money out of the ones I've already got.

So pretty happy at the moment... alternating between streaming my favourite programme at the moment: Black Sails (a Prime Original about pirates), streaming YouTube/Twitch for game content about fortnite and aoe2, and playing games. And of the latter I'm gradually getting better at Fortnite... and today managed to hold my own to some extent against someone trolling me in the playground practice mode... so basically my first proper, long term fight (ie usually I die very soon after hitting the ground as easy pickings for more experienced players Sad Wink)... so that was confidence inspiring... and also I've played my first 'duo' game... with Hammy... today... and looking forward to playing the same way with alpha. So yeah, very happy at the moment Smile

Cool... will do (that's on PlayStation Network right?)... though I'm not sure it will be much use yet because I haven't got a PlayStation plus account, and haven't decided if I want/need one (ie I don't know enough about it yet... but I get the impression that I wouldn't be able to play multiplayer in any game with you over a network... except fortnite, which is an exception to that rule... without that?)

You don't need the Plus account to be my friend, and I was stupid to have wasted the money for the one year subscription anyway. Won't be making that mistake again, because multi-player is simply not worth it when there's never anyone around for it---at least with the games I play.

New to PS 2018
