In the Harry Potter books strands of hair are used to "code" the Juice. Hermione thought she was getting the hair of a Slytherin, Millicent Bulstrode, but she actually got a hair from Millicent's cat. The results were ... interesting.

But say a barber collected the clipped hairs from his clients and sold chances to be that person for a while?

Yeah it's good but if your own bone structure is more slender then you'll need padding between you and the inside of their skin.
