Who to ignore
#11
RE: Who to ignore
Ignore everyone.

That way you get the feel of having the entire forum to yourself...

...until you get banned for putting staff on ignore.

Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni:

"You did WHAT?  With WHO?  WHERE???"

What are some good reasons to ignore someone on an internet forum?

1. Someone who intentionally and repeatedly do and say things that they know upset you
2. Expect you to see their perspective but never attempt to see yours
3. Can't and won't apologize sincerely
4. Always act like the victim when confronted with their abusive behavior

Any of them invalid or any more reasons to add?

1. If one repeats their god exists, and we keep demanding evidence for it, sorry that upsets you, but that is kinda what skeptics do.

2. Many of us here, including me, used to believe.

3. I don't apologize for blasphemy, and especially not for attacking the use of religion to defend sexism, bigotry and violence toward others. Science also not matching up with old mythology, and people still insisting on defending it.

4. Nobody, no theist or atheist who post here is a victim. To be a victim, someone in your face to face life would have to be forcing you by gunpoint to post here.

RE: Who to ignore
No Brian, I'm not sure you could upset me. I was really speaking on forum discussion generally not particular the theist/atheist false dichotomy here

Ok so you agree with 1, 2, 3,
as long as we recognize you used to be a belieber and that you won't apologize for blasphemy, defending attacks on sexism, bigotry, violence towards others or scientific discorveries
Got it, duely noted
You disagree with 4 because no one could be subjected to oppression, hardship, or mistreatment on the forum because being here is optional and sticks and stones... yaddayadda
ok sure

So with that and everyone's input (except Valks because I don't think you can ignore admins)

1. Those with a superiority complex
2. Someone who intentionally and REPEATEDLY do and say things that they know upset you, especially if evidence is demanded and the topic "God exists" upsets you
3. Expect you to see their perspective but never attempt to see yours, especially when you used to be where you think they are
4. Can't and won't apologize sincerely except for defending against those clearly established cultural injustices and scientific proofs
5. No victims because no abuse so don't claim it because you don't have to be here

any more to add
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Where did I say I agreed with you? I merely went through your list and commented on it.

Theist do falsely accuse us of having a superiority complex sometimes.

The topic "God exists" is annoying to me, because there is no evidence for one, never has been. But human's existing whom make those claims can be very good people outside that particular subject. If our species never questioned social norms, our species never would have left the caves.

All 7 billion of us are the same species. Words like "Religion" "ethnic" "culture" do exist, as our own artificial constructs as a species. Racism does exist, bigotry does exist, but because we as a species fail to see on a global scale that we are not a separate species.

No I will not apologize for confronting bad logic and old mythology. There ARE oppressed believers in the world, they have my sympathy. But someone living in the west who is part of a majority who doesn't have to worry about government arresting them say like Atlass here our resident Muslim, whom lives in a theocracy, unlike you, he has a real fear. You getting your god picked on or your logic picked on here is not anywhere near close to what he has to fear where he lives.

Nobody put a gun you your head to post here. What you are not used to  is what minorities worldwide deal with all the time, here yes, you are the minority, at this website. But outside your door, you are not. But if you think our word choices here amount to the same oppression Christians, or even minority Muslims living in the middle east deal with, you really need to check your priorities.

Instead of assuming I am out to get you, it could be I simply am not buying what you are selling. If my bluntness bothers you, it is still not the same as say a reporter being chopped up.

And no, I was not assuming you were addressing me. I was merely responding speaking for myself, but I am quite sure many other atheists can identify with my responses.

You are absolutely right brian you never said you agreed with me, I just assumed since you posited exceptions that generally you agreed. Let me be more direct.
Brian do you agree that these are reasons to ignore someone on an internet forum:

1. Those with a superiority complex
2. Someone who intentionally and REPEATEDLY do and say things that they know upset you, especially if
2a. evidence is demanded and not given
2b. It's regarding the topic "God exists" and is annoying
2c. Someone who can't or won't question social norms as per a skeptic
3. Expect you to see their perspective but never attempt to see yours, especially when you used to be where you think they are
4. Can't and won't apologize sincerely except for
4a. blasphemy
4b. Defending against those clearly established cultural injustices
4c. Defending scientific proofs
5. Those who claim to be victims because there are no victims unless:
5a. You're a minority that's been oppressed
5b. Regularly have your life threatened
6. If you want to ignore the fucker based on nothing particular

Theist do falsely accuse us of having a superiority complex sometimes, I agree. I don't assume you're out to get me. Your bluntness is refreshing and doesn't bother me at all, but I never claimed it did. I am not a minority in my life and nobody puts a gun to my head regularly, unless it's my wife, so that is not integrated into my experiential biases, but I never claimed I did. There are words that exist as our own artificial constructs, I never claimed they didn't.

RE: Who to ignore
I already went through that list, not going to go through it again.

If one  is a liberal, to me that represents the POTENTIAL good and empathy in our species, the part I love. But even they can be over protective to the point it can stifle a needed conversation.  Conservatives to me, are anyone in the world, of EVERY religion, are the people that buy and sell fear, and are afraid of change. The good thing at the same time though, is that we are also capable as a species of over coming our fears, and learning, which we have.

It isn't going to hurt any theist reading this to consider that there is no super cognition helping our species and if we want to reduce harm and create more stability in the world, only we can do that and so far, it seems science has done a lot in that. It certainly has been abused to make weapons of war, and corporations use garbage to keep things like led in gas, or hide the dangers of smoking. But we are also a species who has created doctors and medicine and better building codes.

I DO see alot of good in my species. I simply do not agree that it is coming from a divine or super natural source.

I ignore people who post too much uninteresting stuff on social media. Any of those things above is okay in small doses. Spam me with it, and you've gotta go. Oh, and the "I found this miracle product you can buy from me now." people.
