No doubt, but I'm not ready to equate the rights of people with chickens.

Me neither, nor to waste my time with fatuous strawmen.

I have to admit that I'm not all that busy today, Pad.

I don't mind.

I could eat any animal as long as it's "halal." Big Grin

The important thing for me is to think about what's good for my health even though I do care about the animals (but not as much as myself) ... poor animals.

It depends how sentient chickens are.

So what if the chickens are sentient if there is no chance of their rebelling against usBig Grin

I was ready, until I was informed that vegans were less palatable and nutritious than chickens. Angel

You really piss me off, and no doubt countless others, when you compare motherfucking human beings to goddamn chickens.

Reminds me of the time PETA advertised images of the holocaust death camps next to factory farms for chickens.

You really piss me off when you misrepresent me, and when you claim annoyance because someone's said something you disagree with. I never said chickens had the same rights as humans, nor that battery farms are like the Holocaust. I was just pointing out that saying without justification that a certain group oughtn't to have rights is liable to lead to what will in a few hundred years' time be considered a moral outrage, as in the case of slavery. I didn't say that slavery was the same as battery farming.

If you want to debate the issue properly, I'm happy to do so. But if you're just going to say that my opinion, which as you put it isn't even my opinion, offends you, then that's hardly being reasonable.

'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.

What was implied was that chickens or things like chickens were being treated in a way similar to the enslavement of humans.

If you don't want to be beaten with your own analogy, find a better metaphor.

Might doesn't make right.

There was a hypothetical. IF they are sentient and can suffer to the same extent as humans then it's true.

Since forever. Might doesn't 'make' right in the sense that it doesn't imply it.

Some are treated in a similar way. What I didn't say was that the two things are morally equivalent, necessarily. If you look at the context of the comparison, it was intending to show that it's stupid to rule certain groups out of moral consideration without any reason, not that slavery and battery farms are morally analogous.
