All winter, every time I start my car, the car pops up a reminder that water can freeze and become slippery when it's below freezing outside, did the designers think that there were people capable of driving a car that didn't know this?

I once bought a tin of varnish which listed walnut oil as one of the components. It also had the warning, ‘Contains no walnuts. This is not a food-grade product. Do not eat or drink this product.’
Apparently, the UK was experiencing an epidemic of wood varnish ingestion.

Not so much a design as a practice. Pilots announce on the flight, 'I'm Richard and I'll be your pilot on the flight to Wellington and we'll be cruising at 26 000 feet.'
1. Honestly and truly could not give a fuck what your name is.
2. I know where I'm going, it says it on my ticket.
3. Oh, so you'll be flying OVER things instead of INTO them. Ta for that fascinating glimpse into the world of aviation.

Stevie was late getting to the airport - he had to stop at a cash machine on the way, and it took FOREVER.

Pro tip for engineers working for Boeing or Nasa.

Yup. It's called trading off requirements for the optimum result. I've worked on tools where there were conflicting requirements. One has to decide which requirements are more important, and design accordingly. This trade space can extend from a pair of pliers all the way to spacecraft, quite a range.
