Consecrated virgins: 'I got married to Christ'

Consecrated virgins: 'I got married to Christ'
Consecrated virgins: 'I got married to Christ'

Ms Hayes, 41, is a consecrated virgin - a vocation taken by women within the Catholic Church who wish to give themselves as brides to God.

There are at least 4,000 consecrated virgins in the world, according to a 2015 survey, and the Vatican says there has been an upsurge of vocations "in very diverse geographic areas and cultural contexts".
Unlike nuns, consecrated virgins do not live in enclosed communities or wear special clothes; they lead a secular life, have jobs and support themselves.
There is no such male equivalent in the Catholic Church.

I think it's very strange, comments anyone?

I’m familiar with the idea of Catholic women who claim to be Brides of Christ, and even remember St. Catherine of Siena, who went so far as to claim she married Christ and used his foreskin as a wedding ring. That said, I previously assumed they’re just nuns.

"Very strange"? Meh. It can be considered a mild curiosity at most, when the majority of people on Earth believe they're in relationships with invisible wish-granting wizards in the sky. Getting hitched to one's imaginary super-friend is hardly a radical idea at this point.

If they give themselves to Jesus and then one day decide to divorce Jesus because the good for nothing didn't take the bins out not even once, I wonder if the RCC will go for half!

(I wouldn't put it past them tbh)

I don't consider them to be much different from nuns. There are presently many orders of nuns who do not wear habits anymore. Like many nuns, quite a few of these "brides of Christ" are probably mean-tempered, sexually frustrated old hags. Jesus

Since in high school I was known to have some keyboard skill, my rep as an organist is still "out there". The churches pay very well (union scale) for subs ... and I actually played once for this ceremony : "The Consecration of a Virgin" .... you think it sounds bizarre .... it's far more bizarre than you could imagine. Hehe Hehe Hehe
(It is true, nuns also call themselves, or they used to, "brides of Christ" ... I think there's a movie, or series by that title. )
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell  Popcorn
