Why do you have such depressive/self denying avatar info?

Some people, myself included, like horror. We like the adrenaline and can handle the fright. There is also the fact that nobody is really in danger.
I must admit that I have my limits, even with fiction.

Does haunting by religious thoughts stopped for some of you?

Religious thoughts don't bother me at all because I pretty much don't see anything pointing to hell (or heaven, for that matter) being true. And the evidence to the contrary is overwhelming. Plus, even if hell by chance was true, what am I going to do about it now anyway? As long as there's no evidence at all, why worry when there's no grounds for worrying? I'm just going to continue living the kind of life I enjoy living ... like I've been doing for most of my adult life.

Early in the process of working my way out of xtianity, the threat of hell was a consideration. I can read, and discovered that the whole mess is made up. So many lies! We are fortunate in this day and age that the information is available. I truly feel sorry for all the people who were kept ignorant by the RCC and other churches or organizations.

In my case, since I had studied mysticism for so long, it took most of 6 years and a fair amount of reading to disabuse myself of religious ideas.  Because of long practice and much repetition, they had become so habitual that it took a while.  So I guess it depends on your investment in such ideas, in terms of time and effort. However, the worst of it for me was at the beginning, with mild depression and occasional panic attacks. My self-esteem was low because I had just admitted to myself that I had made a huge judgment error, and that made me vulnerable to doubts.

Once I realized I was an atheist, all I felt was an overwhelming sense of emancipation. I haven't been haunted by religious ideas for nearly 40 years. Great

Yes, they stopped for me quite a long time ago. I became/realized I was an atheist when I was a teenager though so I dumped the whole fear of burning in Hell thing shortly after. I wonder if it makes it easier on the psyche to drop religion earlier in life versus later.

I don’t know how long you’ve been an atheist, but I’m sure with time these thoughts will fade away or at the very least be so far in the back of your mind that you barely pay them any attention.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

It took me a few years, but damn does it feel good to be absolutely free. Sure, my personality is a bit jaded by the submissiveness that the church taught me, but then I tend to counterattack it in the same natural way by being the complete opposite. I might have two personality polar opposite sides to me lol but... I have fun with it. Freedom tastes good, man. Wiiiiiiiii!
